/pol/'s thoughts on the heavily Jewish influenced architecture style known as Brutalism
Why is this "jewish influenced"?

>>79121738
because it's anti-classical and incredibly ugly to look at
Brutalism is kinda cool, it at least attempts to "decorate", with something looking evil.
Most other modernist buildings don't attempt to look like anything. Those are the true trash.
I like Judge Dredd.

There was lots of this shit at the University of Toronto. I swear it's designed to be imposing and demoralizing.
>>79122275
>>79122322
Personally, I've always felt the style had a strange charm to it, but I wouldn't want it to become ubiquitous, and I can see why most don't like it.
>>79121624
It is a style that appeared all across Europe after WWII and mimics the raw concrete designs of military buildings and bunkers. It's wasn't started by THE JOOS.
>>79122449
Man when you see this kinda shit in the dead of winter it just makes you feel like an ant.
>>79122489
>It's wasn't started by THE JOOS
>>79122180
nothing, that's the charm in it.
The modern glass buildings that don't even attempt to have a style, evil or not, are what are really demoralizing.
So basically an elevator tower connects two buildings..
Bravo, kikes...stick to counting your shekels and screwing the goy. You are shit builders
>>79122745
Mate, you're absolutely fucked. Glass buildings, even at their plainest are more aesthetically pleasant to look at than this concrete gulag garbage.
>>79121624
Nice and functional. I like it. Who cares if the architects who started it were Jewish? its not a political statement, just an aesthetic one.
>modern glass buildings are ugly
>>79123106
functionality doesn't have to include soullessness
On a practical level, this >>79122959 and this >>79122591 would be good in cold climates as they cut down on thermal exchange areas - it's a lot easier for heat to enter or escape via glass than big masses of concrete. That cuts down your electrical or other heating/cooling bills long term, in exchange for a slight increase in lighting requirements.
>>79121624
I think it's cool tbqh pham.
Brutalism as fashion
I love it. Only plebs hate it.
>>79123559
yeah a slab of concrete with some glass on it is so hip and trendy!
>>79122322
I agree with you, that's the idea. They spun some nonsense yarn about how it 'shows the true structure' and therefore is 'honest.'
It's about making something look imposing to the point that it crushes your spirit for reaching for the stars.
Modern glass boxes crush us in a similar sense, but by rotting us from the inside out. These dissolve our spirit while brutalist structures weigh down on it.
>>79121908
MUST be bait, but I'll have a nibble.
>>79124062
If you're able to let the look of a few buildings affect you that way then you're a lost cause anyway
>>79123781
I was going to post something like this.
I like it in a dystopian way. If we're going to become slaves to jewish globalism, might as well make everything look oppressive and dreary for dramatic effect.
>>79121624
I think this building looks like bullshit
Every brutalist building has its own charm and its easy to hate some and love others.
That said, they are more expensive than alternatives and are absolutely horrible to try to maintain.
>>79121624
Pure garage. Which stands to reason when you consider Jews are incapable of actually building or creating anything that isn't war. They can finance projects no problem, but can they actual do what humans can considering they can't even fight for themselves? Absolutely not. Which is strange considering the whole Jewish intelligence meme.
>>79121624
Makes me want to go to sleep and pretend that I didn't see it
>>79121624
>Brutalism is Jewish
>Everything I don't like is Jewish
Brutalism draws inspiration from Nazi architecture, at least indirectly.

why would they be more expensive?

I like psuedo-Brutalist stuff that seems to be a mishmash of 50s International style and Mid-Century Modern. Looked friendly and cute even on behemoths.
The Brutualism we know, on the other hand, looks like it was built to get nuked. Some stuff had really good interiors though.
same building, other side.
>>79125975
No, not really. Speer was much more influenced by Art Deco. NSDAP buildings had their own blend, which was very aesthetic, strong, beautiful, but not gaudy.
>>79124491
My Aussie friend, architecture is a powerful means of resonating the people it serves. Compare going into a beautiful Romanesque or Gothic cathedral with that of the cement underground church at Lourdes. One is an uplifting experience and the other made me think I was going into a bomb shelter.
Brutalism started in France gang (brut) though (((who))) advanced it at first I don't know. The Soviet's loved it- and so did the post modern West.
>>79123336
>That cuts down your electrical or other heating/cooling bills
good goy. jk
>>79126854
Concrete is much more expensive and difficult to assemble
>>79121738
Jews have a kind of style of no style, a bitter functionality that dismisses beauty as pointless. They have this in art, in speech, in writing, in music. It is one if their deep foundational things and one of the first things I ever noticed about them.
Consider the phrase "and here's the beauty part." Consider the mechanistic functionality of the term "take-away."
>>79127482

brutalism or not, all buildings here are made of concrete.
>>79122322

There was a blog that got censored for this obviously but the guy observed that modern synogogues are easily the most hideous and hateful buildings anywhere. He wasn't an anti-Semite and didn't follow conspiracy stuff. He just had driven past several and spontaneously observed it. He's right of course, they tend to try to make big brutal statements with concrete.
There was also an infamous one in Prague that looked Satanic, it was dark and the roof was made up of these straight upright staves like teeth.
>>79121913

Glass shit like that is uglier than brutalism. At least brutalist buildings do something. Plain glass boxes just disappear into the background and ruin the close knit fabric of traditional wall to wall cities.
>>79123317
That is a wonderful photograph.
>>79129523
This looks like an Arma 2 map
>>79125975
No it doesn't. The narrow window slits and bare concrete surfaces are pretty much what you expect from a military installation. And these too borrow concepts from medieval castles built to withstand siege, which go back further still to to Roman forts, possibly to when siege warfare was first invented.
It's simply an architectural design that reflects the history of human warfare.

Brutalist theory is incredibly interesting, and architects love this movement. Check out Alison and Peter Smithson if your interested, they popularized the movement.

The hallmark of true good architecture is that you can't just glance at it and take it all in at once. The hallmark of true beauty is the same thing.
You can't just glance at it and take in all the designs at once.
Look at pic related. Your eyes are drawn everywhere. There are so many details that pop out yet blend in so well.
Every inch of it is its own masterpiece that can be enjoyed
Modern art and modern architecture should be wiped from memory.
Is New Formalism an acceptable form of modern architecture? I love this stuff.
the star wars looking buildings are interesting, but when I think Brutalism I think of a filthy, pigeon shit and moss covered council block in some shithole UK town, covered in chav piss and broken bottles.

>>79145688
architecture is about function not decoration. Looking at pretty moldings gets redundant after about 30 secs. Living in a soviet style block of flat is close to hell itself, the noise from neigbours takes your chances away from reading or studying effectively. You are constantly angry, and live in a tiny crowded room that feels like a cage. You suffer from lack of fresh air, even compared to the sides of busy streets of the city.
All can fuck their communist jewish brutalism, I prefer big rural houses with large garden, and ample distance from next neigbour. And all can fuck off with their monuments, people should not be taxed to pay for some shitheads artistic ideas.

to be fair senpai, he had an impossible task: preserve the old building while adding more room. The facade in the first photo is just one part out of 3 different 'building' periods. Inside you can see the second extension, which was weird brutalist/generic architecture and his extension is the last. It was a nightmare to build tho. Not his fault at all.

That's poured concrete.

nice digits
yep, here in canada too. the reason is simple: hire one architect, repeat the design over a thousand times. hire crews with the lowest skill in building techniques (drywall, frame roofing) and you can put down a subdivision in one construction season.
We have this, the national library.
>>79152410
Australia isn't as big on building huge subdivisions at once like the US and Canada are, and there is usually some minor variance in houses so It's not all the same
But the problem is that the minor variances don't make a difference when the base you're building from just looks straight up bad anyway.
Also Australian suburbs have far too few trees and the grass looks like shit unless It's recently rained. I know a lot of Americans complain about home owners associations getting on their ass about the grass, but maybe they should live in Australia where nobody waters their grass and half the suburb doesn't mow their grass and then they might appreciate how good American suburbs look. It's literally a case of the grass is greener on the other side and so few Australians care about it. Drop into any random American suburb and most of the time you'll see nice lawns and large leafy trees; drop in a random Australian suburb and most of the time you'll see awful lawns and not that many trees, and If you do see trees they'll probably be fucking paperbark, eucalyptus or palm trees which all look like dogshit compared to oaks, figs, pines and alders.

Yeah, you guys are in a horrible environment and I bet most of the homes are bungalows because of the heat??
I've seen some landscaping designs that involve no lawns but long grasses, and bushes (lavender, rosemary) in my city because the city installed water meters in all our homes.
But I 100% agree, it must be hard.

brutalist architecture like this makes me think of some dystopian city or something, its cool
Why does anyone anywhere give a literal shit what a skyscraper looks like on the outside? It should be as cheap and strong and comfortable on the inside as possible, nothing else should matter. If you want to look at pretty buildings browse 3D renders, don't pollute the fucking world with resource misuse because you think everything you look at should be sexy.

These other dudes are retarded. Brutalism can be cool as fuck if done right.
In Atlanta, there are lots of brutalist buildings. Many of them are done in an awesome way. Some have foliage growing off little ledges, and a stream of water passing underneath. It is there to exist and to exist well.
Of course you don't want it ubiquitous though. No one wants anything ubiquitous.
Brutalist architecture was very popular in Sweden during the 70s, obviously due to soviet influences. I used to live in this complex for a few years, it was always depressing from the outside.

Atlanta's such a weird city, I can see the money that's been poured into it, but it doesn't look as good as it should.

Yep, and it was the same at the human level as well. Everything was made out of concrete, sometimes molded to imitate wood panels. Once you were inside it was quite nice though, very efficient architecture and lots of sunlight.

>>79154153
The problem was that this mesuem had 2 extension projects before he came around. One was in the 70s and it involved adding another wing, and another one in the 30s. The building was a mishmash of styles and the selection committee wanted something interesting to connect two wings together while incorporating existing space.
every picture I see of these buildings is literally chipping away at my soul. I am less of a human being than I was before I saw this thread

When you have skills that are highly in demand, your attachment to your nation becomes obsolete.
From where I am.
Only tangentially related, but I've been wondering about the origin of the sort of new (last 20 years or so) widespread of abstract, geometrical, rusty "sculptures" in roundabouts all over Spain.
What I mean is: about 20 years ago municipalities all over the country started getting new sculptures they'd place in roundabouts. They all share the same pattern: crude, primitive, abstract, meaningless, rust in no time. Pic related is a perfect example.
They could celebrate battles, heroes, intellectuals, explorers, cultural achievements, regional differences, whatever. Instead we got this jungle of corroded metal rudely mixed and matched, all sculptures are different and all are the same.
It's impossible all municipalities would come up with such a stupid idea on their own at the same time, so they must have had followed orders from someone above them. I can only guess the intention (paired with ever increasingly worse educational systems and mass immigration) was to further destroy regional and national culture.
Has happened in other countries?
It gets marked for desutrction from time to time, but keeps getting saved
>>79154695
Utterly loathsome building. I'm sorry but the only hope for Cumbernauld is a tactical nuclear strike.

This happened all over the UK. And it's still going on. Let me find some pics.
>>79154571
So did the library, it got bombed, rebuilt in the 50s and extended in the 70s. They just purged the 70s extension and restored a lot of the early designs.

>>79154990
It wouldn't have worked because then those other wings would have to shutdown. This is a museum, not a library. The museum funding comes from patrons and admissions and the cost to rebuild the whole thing, including destroying a wing because it was a 70s brutalist style would have been nuts.
