ISIS ultimately overran the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at Rusafeh, resulting in a disorganized retreat that left behind weapons and several soldiers. According to a military source, 23 soldiers have been confirmed “killed-in-action” (KIA); 49 soldiers were wounded; and dozens of others are currently “missing-in-action” (MIA). The soldiers that considered MIA are believed to be either dead, captured, or trapped behind enemy lines. On Tuesday, the Syrian Armed Forces remained idle at the Zakiyah Crossroad in west Raqqa.

>Israeli Intel Chief: We Don’t Want ISIS Defeated in Syria
>In a speech at the Herzliya Conference, Israel’s military intelligence chief, Major General Herzi Halevy, took Israel’s long-standing position that it “prefers ISIS” over the Syrian government to a whole ‘nother level, declaring openly that Israel does not want to see ISIS defeated in the war.
>Maj. Gen. Halevy expressed concern about the recent offensives against ISIS territory, saying that in the last three months the Islamist group was facing the “most difficult” situation since its inception and declaration of a caliphate.
>Israeli officials have regularly expressed comfort with the idea of ISIS conquering the whole of Syria, saying they find it preferable to the Iran-allied government surviving the war. At the same time, they were never so overtly supportive of ISIS and its survival.
>Halevy went on to express concern that the defeat of ISIS might mean the “superpowers” leaving Syria, saying this would put Israel “in a hard position” after being so opposed to the survival of the Syrian government.
>He then said Israel will do “all we can so as to not find ourselves in such a situation,” suggesting that the Israeli military is looking at direct support for ISIS as a matter of policy, and not just rhetoric.

Israel is just butthurt that Syria was secular and accepted all faiths but jews:
>Sunni bias against Alawites is striking, as is the omission that the Alawite-led Assad regime from 1970 onwards was a secular one which sought to contain and minimize sectarian divisions and thus conflict; no easy task in that neck of the woods. It is for this reason one can find Christian Lebanese supporters of Assad. They believe/d that a merged Lebanon and Syria under the Alawite-dominated Damascus regime was the next best solution to a Christian-dominated Lebanon; a prospect that they recognized by the late 1970’s became demographically impossible. And thus supported the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) so that they would have the robust protection afforded to Syria’s non-Muslim minorities (Jews excluded).
>For all their faults Assad senior and junior have done a very good job at keeping Syria stable for almost half a century. The Muslim Brotherhood was suppressed with exceptional and indiscriminate ferocity in its stronghold of the city of Hama in 1982 with, mostly civilian, casualties in the order of 10,000; interestingly the MB was pretty quiescent for the next three decades. Haven’t heard of the 1982 Hama massacre? You would know everything about it:books, films, scores of TV documentaries, hundreds of magazine articles and thousands of newspaper articles and TV news items; if Israel had carried out a similar operation in Lebanon or Syria in the same year. Or ever.
>Only bone-headed anti-Assad Western intervention under the Obama regime in some child-like pursuit of creating democracy through the “Arab Spring” has ruined everything: cf Libya (Gaddafi) & Egypt (Mubarak). And, as both Bassam Tibi and Bill Whittle note, all that achieved, apart from plunging Syria into a multi-sided civil war, was to make Russia a regional player again for the first time since 1973. Such wise and clever diplomacy.

I don't remember the exact video title. It was about Hillary's emails leaked by wikileaks and his point was that she and the Obama administration created, or at least supported and armed ISIS to topple Assad so Israel could keep its nuclear monopoly and therefor have first strike and bully options: undertaking airstrikes against other countries which it couldn't so easily, if Iran got hold of nukes.
>It says Turkey’s border cities had turned into militant training ground for ISIL.
>Investigations in the US turned out to be Erdogan’s nightmare. Probe into Kuveyt Turk on charges of financing ISIL outraged Erdogan.
>It adds that private security firms close to the AKP also trained militants.
>mentions that 5,000 militants trained in Antep, Kilis, Urfa, Konya and Istanbul joined ISIL and wounded ones were treated in Turkey.

>The best way to help Israel deal with Iran's growing nuclear capability is to help the people of Syria overthrow the regime of Bashar Assad.
One of the reasons why US started this war is to help Israel. ISIS and Israel hate each other only on name, look how there is ISIS territory at the border of Israel and they don't fight, not even a border clash or shelling. Both want Assad to fall before considering fighting each other.
>Or is Isis being used to weaken the surrounding countries so Israel can "retaliate" once attacked?
Basically this, Netanyahu said some weeks ago that everyone should recognize Golan Heights as Israel land and they won't give it back to Syria. If Assad falls, they may just grab more land to "protect the druze community".

When his account first disappeared, Syria Protector already said that Ivan deleted his account himself and would probably still be doing something. I don't know about the latter but the first part of his statement suggests he heard from Ivan directly about it. Hard to do when you're dead.

Is this what centuries of being irrelevant in the world does to your thinking process?
Syria is the faultline of like a dozen different binary conflicts. Just off the top of my head you have:
> Sunni vs Shi'ite
> Saudi vs Iranian
> Secular vs. Islamist
> Russian vs US
> Kurd vs. Turk
to say nothing of the much smaller but collectively hugely important conflicts involving religious and ethnic minorities that have survived for more than 1,000 years in Syria specifically because they're tough, mistrustful mountain peoples.
We haven't even gotten into the notion of spillover yet. It's already ripped Iraq to pieces, is kicking at Turkey and Egypt. A few well placed bombs and Lebanon goes.
ISIS propaganda believes that the definitive battle will take place at Dabiq, a town a dozen kilometers or so from the front lines and sandwiched between Kurdish cantons. In this they might be right, Sven.

You just circled shit hole desert and mountains.
The fertile land is all in kurdish and nursa hands. Look at a topographical map once in a while.
http://russia-insider.com/en/syrian-army-retreat-aleppo-run-raqqa/ri15105
>The Americans played this one smart. They faked an all out Kurdish attack on Raqqa, prompting Assad forces to divert precious material and supply of soldier from beating the Kurd to Raqqa. Thereby they relieved the pressure on the Al Nusra fighters in Idlib and Aleppo provinces and under the guise of the so called cease fire -to which the Russians amazingly agreed to,- they regrouped, re-armed and successfully pushed SSA army and its allies back around Aleppo.
ISIS on the other hand is still strong enough to deal with a scattered force of no more than 1,000 government solider which are far from their supply lines and far from the Allawite, Shiite lands. I have been saying all along, unless someone comes up to no less then 100,000 combat ready soldiers, Assad will not be able to take the east of Syria back nor will he be able to push into Idlib and east Aleppo. With what is currently on the ground and in the air, plus the limited level of Russian commitment for the past 3 months, all they can hope for is to keep the ground that have now.
The Russians and Iranians have maximum 7 months to make up their mind and deal a heavy blow to all the terroist groups in Syria. Once Hillary is in the white house, she will make things infinitely more compliated for the Assad and Russian/ Iranian interest in Syria.
I-is this the begining of the end for Assad?
>>78184877

>>78185747
Then why are all major cities in that circle?
Pretty sure the rest is just desert mostly.
>>78184786
SAA looks like it is literally out of able bodies
My armchair general reasoning would be to hunker down, up the defenses, and wait for the kurds to cut all ISIS supply lines in north Aleppo. Hopefully this + the progress in Iraq will weaken ISIS without expending any more of the SAA on risky offensives.
After Manbij is taken, Turkish backed FSA and U.S. backed SDF will eventually meet. I don't really see any scenario where these forces do not conflict with one another. U.S. obviously wants SDF to play nice towards FSA, but Turkey is not of the same opinion.
So the big variable here is what will happen when the less "moderate" FSA factions and SDF collide. For the SAA, it runs the risk of letting SDF get the military and diplomatic momentum, but I think it would be worth it to wait and see. And frankly, they probably aren't capable of doing anything else at this point.
>>78185752
Green text speaks truth. Homs and Damascus should be #1 priority for SAA. Then Aleppo and Latakia.
Deir ezzoir could be a grind they undertake as they achieve each of the other objectives one by one.
What I'm saying is create some kind of ring of protection so when the US invades the government can have a stronghold well defended. Right now forces are everywhere and the US could storm right through to Damascus.
>>78186147
All mountains and shit land compared to idlib and the Tigris.
>>78185752
its a bullshit post, because it simplifies the situation by making outside support a given variable.
the more the regime is threatened, the more iran and assad will comply to russia and the more they comply, the deeper russia will engage.
russia is the key to winning aleppo and everybody knows it.
one serious bombing campaign against north-western aleppo and the tigers can swoop in and cut the city core of.
the troops there are not bound to Nusra and might agree to some deal sooner than we can imagine at the moment.

I remind myself of that but in the media they make it seem like every Sunni is two steps from joining ISIS. It's annoying. The sectarianism in western media should be outlawed. I expect that crap from gulf media but why the fuck do we need 10000 daily beast articles about sunnis in fear of shias?
>>78186983
which is why Iran is in Syria, they know they are next.

russias engagement is not out, its just on hold, as assad cannot make his mind up about if he wants to protected by iran or russia.
Russia wants to enforce peace and not strengthen the shias in syria. and for that goal you have to do one thing: secure aleppo. after that its game over. But Iran is going for shia villages for the prestige, wasting manpower and ressources.

The Sunni enjoyed preference over Shi'i in Iraq under Saddam and his predecessor. This idea that they feel alienated is because they lost elections, and were surprised when they started getting thrown in jail for bankrolling fighters from outside Iraq and extremist militias.
Their tribal shit is their undoing, they are still butt hurt about popular rule, and they lack the courage to declare autonomy.
JUST

its just a road in the desert. easy push, easy loss. As long as ISIS does not break through the fortified positions and the SAA does not lose to many men, everything is fine.

>as assad cannot make his mind up about if he wants to protected by iran or russia.
It cannot be both? Russia and Iran both want complete influence over Syria then? How do you know?
Iran needs to give Russia/Syria an ultimatum. Liberate Fua and Kefraya and then we'll dedicate more troops/money for other operations. Because those people are getting shelled constantly by nusra, they are in the middle of a hornets nest and by the grace of God have made it this long.
>>78179806
I tried...
>>78188020
>Iran in any position to be making ultimatums
>>78187979
russia and iran are concurrents in whole central asia and the middle east. Syria is a tradtional soviet ally, thus tartus, kuweires and other airports and russian policial influence. iran on the other hand is creeping up on it through sectarian militias, gaining disturbing strong influence over hezbollah during the last decade, which originally was always more dependent on the syrian security apperatus. For Iran this is a battle to secure control from iran over iraq to latakia and form a counterblock to the sunni league. For Russia this is a game of securing and pacifing the region, thus nullifiying security risk for themselves and iranian control over for example kasachstan.

So now they have a thousand men assembled next to the Aleppo pocket....
Inb4 the entire raqqa force disperses and Aleppo is given another 3 months to reinforce.
3 russians dead on Ithriya, ISIS posted their personal information from their mobile phones.
Great news everyone, Falluhjah is almost captured.
This will put a smile on your face since the recent setback of the SAA

the positions they fell back to now are dug in and there is a sandstorm starting tomorrow, so i doubt IS will push further or they run into the same trap the SAA did.
>>78188763
Forgot to mention. The iraqi forces have captured the Northern bridge, I dont have any info about the southern one, but my guess is that they have captured that bridge aswell
>>78188948
I mean that instead of focuses those forces on Aleppo the SAA will send them all over the country to do more useless offensives that gain nothing.
Also when was the last confirmed post by Ivan? On YouTube or elsewhere? Cause looking pretty certain he's dead.
>>78189189
well fallujah was probaly quickly given up by the IS, doubt Mossul will be that easy.

as i said earlier:
the key to aleppo is the russian airforce full commiting and as long as assad is hot and cold between iran and russia, that will not happen.
Ivan's still inactive on twitter but his youtube was updated yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0oPgpJRKeo

Are they seriously going back to this bullshit? It's like 2012-2014 all over again.
>>78189405
True, And ISIS is still in the surrounding areas, although those will be ( I hope) easier to capture.
Manbij has stalled a bit in regards of advances, a bit by ISIS and a bit by SDF, YPG.
Mosul will be the battle of battles to capture.>>78188228
Well thanks, But the names of the city are very important. It shows that there are future defeats for ISIS to come. As a way to motivate those who feel lost.
