There were times when Kingdom of Bohemia was devastated (like Thirty Years War when we lost like 1/3 of our population), but there were also times when we were prosperous. Most of nobility was Lithuanian up until end of XVI century, when it became polonized.
However, Lithuanian was never really widely spoken language in Duchy.
For one we didn't have our own written language up until middle of XVI century, and even after that Ruthenian or Polish was used as an official language in Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
And Lithuanians had a big flaw of being incapable of assimilating conquered people. Instead of making Ruthenians become Lithuanian, we largely lost our national identity ourselves.
Although, it is important to note that Ruthenian nobility in Lithuanian lands considered themselves Lithuanian nationals.
