for example we pay a lot higher taxes.
if you study something that will get you a high paying job, you will have paid your tuition in taxes in no time. (keep in mind that university at least in germany is a lot more- sit in a giant hall listen to professor-learn in the library-write your test or your large paper- nobody cares if you do any of those things)
anyway once you've "paid off" what the government spend on your degree, you start paying enormous taxes for people who study silly things or just general welfare.

because europe somehow got 5 nations to nationalize education, doesnt mean the US can miraculously make 50 states with different laws implement nationalized education.
