The federal government (DOJ,FBI,DHS) sent out memos to Army surplus stores and the like, telling them they should snitch on people who are stockpiling food and supplies. I've got a small survival kit that I carry with me when I go innamountains.
It consists of loads of kit that I have tried my best to make as small as possible. For weight bearing and carrying purposes. When I go off the grid and back to nature for a few days, then I make my own MREs. I don't give a shit about the weather, the harsher, the better. I never carry water as it weighs a shitload. I find a water source and use various purifiers to clean it. Boiling is good, but it won't get rid of all the shit.

Last I checked, Finnish government advised to do some prepping. Not necessarily for the doomsday scenario, but it never hurts to have extra provisions for a couple of weeks if sdhtf. Getting licensed for a hunting rifle is more of a formality, so that isn't difficult either. Then there's also a vibrant and healthy black market for firearms. not that I would ever recommend anyone to get a firearm illegally because it's morally wrong. But this black market exists throughout the Europe, which explains why criminals have a far better access to firearms than law-abiding citizens and it's not actually difficult to get into the circles, if you're willing to become a criminal by the virtue of owning an illegal firearm (not recommended). Nobody gives a shit if you own machetes, axes or any of that other gear.

After most of the entirely unprepared population dies from dehydration, starvation, and rioting, most prepared people will be sparsely distributed and hard to come by. Thank you. It has a lot of stuff done to it that isn't necessary, but helps with stability and balance.
For instance, I've replaced the original stock with a Clyde Armory SCAR chassis. That thing alone costs roughly the same as the rifle (pure, milled aircraft grade aluminium).
Did a trigger job on it, it now pulls at 3 lbs.
Added a barrel stabilizer (accu-strut) to help mitigate barrel vibration and tighten groups.
Added some basic Magpul furniture, such as the AFG (angled fore-grip) and butt stock.
As it currently is configured it costs way more than an AR-15 which could do the same thing, but I would need to get into IPSC for 2-3 years in order to buy an AR, so.. It's OK.

5.56 is overrated. I load it because it's what I'm most accustomed to (4 years army), but I'm moving away from it.
I just bought my first 7.62x54r rifle (see pic, top). That's going to be my big game calibur. For small game, I'm going to stick with .223 (5.56mm).

The main reason why you want the barrel chambered in 5.56 over .223 Remington is that you can fire both rounds through the same barrel.
If it was the other way around (barrel chambered in .223 Remington) you would have pressure problems which could potentially be dangerous.
All of my weapons are chambered in military cartridges (NATO standard) because they're easy to get a hold of.
You could get a Mini-14 chambered in .300 BLK as well. It's a heavier bullet with a slower velocity, but definitely a good alternative (since you can use 5.56/.223 magazines with that round).
If you only learn ONE thing prepper related, learn first aid and trauma treatment. It will save more lives than becoming Rambo.
Once that is mastered, get the basics of water purification, shelter and food gathering down.

You can get firearms that do not take sealed cartridges without needing a license in Sweden. Not sure if it's legal to actually shoot them but a 'display piece' can very easily become a useful tool if shit hits the fan and you have the other 'historical components' to go along with it.

It's mostly the same in the UK since nearly all the land is privately owned. You can take the risk and probably won't get fined but you need to be prepared to leave as soon as someone asks you to.
Scotland has some extra provisions to allow camping in the highlands but functionally it's similar to the rest of Britain, If you don't get permission from the landowner you must leave as soon as you are asked to and don't be surprised if the police are called to make sure you leave.

Most gun owners that shoot often have at least 2k rounds. For me, a typical trip to the range is shooting 200-300 rifle rounds and 100-200 pistol rounds in an hour and a half without rapid fire. If I spend the day at an outdoor range, I can easily go through 2k rifle and 1k pistol.
Buying in bulk is cheaper by miles.
Ammo availability and price fluctuate depending on how recently some people go shot and the time in an election cycle.
So if you go to the range every weekend and you only buy in bulk because you don't want to go to 20 stores(while paying 4x as much) just to get enough ammo for an afternoon of shooting, it just makes sense to have thousands of rounds on hand.
