Commies in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (Montreal) attacks policemen

A group of about 30 young individuals who went out to commit vandalism in order to denounce the gentrification of the neighbourhood ended up attacking cops with pyrotechnics and other incendiary weapons.

The place is now known for it's underground welfare/junky/punk/anarcho-communist culture. Recently, the influx of professionals seeking to acquire property close to downtown Montreal has led to a boom in condo construction, land value increases, and consequent closure of dollar stores, pawnshop and other shitty businesses. In later years, locals have reacted with acts of vandalism against bourgeois businesses and other symbols of gentrification. It goes up from frequent graffiti and window busting to burning down condo construction sites.

Fun fact, in 1943, they elected a Jewish communist MP who ended up being convicted of spying for a foreign country. You can't make this up.
