My urge to get drunk dropped as soon as I got to college and alcohol was widely available. My cousin owned a liquor store so it was pretty much the same as being legal. My taste in alcohol rose however; and I went from drinking half a bottle of shitty rum when I partied to having a few expensive beers.I drink about 3 times a week, but haven't been truly drunk in almost a year.

"Power hour" is illegal in most states. Call ahead to make sure you can do it.
If you want to get technical, many states don't prohibit consumption of alcohol under 21, especially on private property. Nearly all states have exemptions (i.e. religious ones like taking Communion).
21 is the age to *purchase*. Still dumb, but a lot of people seem to get the two mixed up.

The drinking age is 21 for a variety of reasons such as more cars on roads in America, more binge drinking in general as part of the culture (I've had friends visit Europe and they were looked down on for getting very drunk), and of course the state looking for any possible reason to have their enforcers fine you out the ass for something everybody does anyway (underage drinking).
