Agreed. Say what you will about Stalin being a short angry little Jew man, but he knew better than anyone else that he would either have to make Russia modernize and industrialize itself or they would become completely irrelevant, and he made them do exactly that.

Did he really hate Jews? I'm not necessarily saying he loved them, but antisemitism was pretty strongly denounced throughout the USSR both when he was and wasn't its leader and I can't recall any specific programs or movements that sought to rid the Soviet Republics of Jews or Jewish activity (aside from religious purging which was universal).
