Anybody ever watched wayward pines? Shit took place in idaho. We can't die guys.
What if other countries decide to attack while we are crippled?
Or will people band together and help?

I will take my 1-3 millimeters of ash in stride. A little volcanic ash is good for soil. People would go get car washes. Bye bye flyover country, ye shall not be missed.
>>71297919
Lol prep the bullcano americuck, if this explodes you will be covered with ash, so hope you have a fallout level vault to survive this.
>>71298047
Keep in mind fuckers from socal keep moving here. Hell I'm one of em. Lived here for over 10 years now though.
>>71297652
Geologist here. Let me Redpill you on volcanic ash. Let's say Yellowstone did blow it's top. Everything from the pink area inwards will experience roof collapse. If Yellowstone did blow, it's like taking a solid slab of earth and slowly sprinkling it over your roof until it is so heavy it collapses. Make sure you have a gas mask or something to protect your lungs. Volcanic ash is small bits of ash. It will fuck up your lungs good if you do not have protection. Stock up on food and water if you hear of an impending eruption, or it has already erupted, because you will most likely not see another full food shelf for another 15 years. Make sure you have plenty of air filters. Seal your home with duct tape so the ash will not get in. Always make sure to wear a mask outside at all times. Do not open windows. Expect power grid failure in most purple areas within a day. Everything in the orange should see power grid failure in a few weeks. Good luck of it does blow, but it's unlikely.
>>71297652
Ehhh... what are my odds of survival in california?

Just by coats cause your gonna freeze in the ice age
Note that the scenario in the picture has an infinitesimally tiny chance of happening even with the next century, and if it actually did occur 95% of humanity would die out, not just the few states fully affected, as a global ice age would occur, famine would be basically everywhere, and exothermic blasts would devastate almost the entire planet.
Any eruption remotely likely to occur at Yellowstone would be about similar to the Mount Tambora eruption, which killed ~70,000 people and caused a major famine. So it would be pretty bad but anyone not in the direct state or states neighboring the volcano would be fine and we would probably recover much more easily than from Tambora.
>>71298304
You can look it up. Some will filter, but some won't. Depends on the brand. If it doesn't, I would recommend something more filtering like a real gas mask with a few standby filters if you need to go outside for whatever reason. Remember, ash is literally small bits of glass. It will destroy your lung lining and you will die of suffrocation if you breathe in too much
Please bring the nuclear winter KEK

>>71297652
I would think that the ash thickness would not necessarily coincide with that map. Weather patterns at that time, which way the wind is blowing, could send it off in a different direction, whether it be south towards Texas or north to Canada. Regardless, I would be relatively fine here in Ohio (3-10mm).

>>71298576
That's good. A tight seal is the best. Since it isn't biological you just need a gas mask, not a full positive pressure suit.
>>71298304
Anything to help you from breathing in the particulates is good. Obviously it doesn't do anything for the various gases associated with an eruption but if you're close enough for that to matter you're dead anyways

An underground shelter might save them from the roof collapse problem, but that's a concrete pillbox. It might be a week before the government can send an organized response to fetch these people, but the eruption ash will be falling on them 30-60 minutes after it started.
>>71298893
and for how long.
I never really thought of this, but, how would ash react to an inverted exhaust pipe? I have one in my bunker that Leads out from my back up diesel generator.
>>71298879
If you can get on a boat to shitposterland from Seattle than you should be good until the ash blocks out the sun down there.

Thanks, I should really put together a bug out kit incase of an eruption or earthquake. Not to worried about gangs since I'm not in Seattle but Vancouver just figured it would be easier to ask about Seattle.
>>71298879
Dust masks. Volcanic ash mixes in with lung moisture and creates what is basically liquid cement.
>>71299226

Meh. Whatever.
Hard times are good for the species. We've gotten too soft. Forgotten who we are.
>>71308070
>why couldn't people go out and vacuum up the debris of a 24,000 megaton explosion per second eruption that rained down on most of a continent
>>71308070
For the same reason we don't use vacuums for snow removal.
>>71308234
This wouldn't be hard times like living in the dust bowl in Kansas, this would be apocalyptic.
>>71308281
You don't? What do you do with all the snow then? Just leave it on the street?
>>71308269
Everyone's got a vacuum man. If this shit is really world ending, I think everyone would be willing to spend a few hours vacuuming their yards and driveways an shit.

Volcanic ash is dense, not like snow.
Just a few millimeters is enough to crack glass, and inches can be enough to smother someone unlucky enough.

>>71308319
It would be hard yes. But not apocalyptic. I mean the shits happened many times before and things appear to be quite alright nay?
It would end civilization sure.
But a remnant will remain. And probably much of the technology would remain. The knowledge.
Not all of it certainly. But enough. We won't be back in the stone age. Just a bump along the road before our glorious assent.
Besides. Ash is fabulous fertilizer. Planet will be clean and green my man

Yeah, we have those. They also just have vacuums on the side attached to hoses that dump all the snow into a trailer to haul away.
You just leave that shit on the road? Or do you run behind all of those with a fucking scooper and pick it all up again after? Waste of time and effort if so.

I could only hope that it comes before the election. Wiping out California's population would only serve to help Trump win.
Plus I'm not affected in the slightest, because I live in Southern Arizona. Worst case scenario I just have to sweep some ash from my roof. Best case? Fucking 2nd Ice Age HELL YEAH

What exactly does an inch of ash amount to?
>>71310811
is it wrong to think the pompeii "fossils" are just crude concrete sculptures placed there to illustrate the depth of the disaster?
So let me get this straight. Assuming the US last until the next eruption, we'll basically completely collapse as soon as it does?
We're literally a ticking time bomb. Why even live?
>>71310946
One inch of ash.
>>71310946
See, an inch of ash by itself isn't much. When it's an inch of ash across most of America's farmland? We'd be fucked.
>>71311003
Think of your Death Pose because we gonna end up like Pompeii so before the ash fucks you up and turns you into a statue, you should think of your death pose for future archaeologists to speculate what you were doing in your last moments.
>>71297652
USA just wants a catastrophic bail out from debt. Pay your debts burger you can't meme out of this one.
>>71310946
Also, depends what the ash is made of.
Some ash can be quite toxic.
>>71310985
Plaster was injected into the ash to fill in the impressions where people died and decomposed. They are incredibly well-preserved. After excavation, archeologists were careful to return the site to as close the way it was as possible.
>>71311122

Volcanic ash is considered to be the best building material after all.
Ancient Romans used a ton of volcanic ash to make their concrete which is why Concrete from Ancient Rome is vastly superior to a majority of modern concrete, today.
We could invent concrete better than Ancient Roman concrete but there is no point in doing that, economic wise, because modern humans don't really want to make something that lasts forever whereas ancient humans thought making something that lasts forever was an ideal to strive for.
What if we just drill a hole for lava to come out slowly? Will it prevent explosion? Is it possible even?

Dude, not even tourists want to take anything from Pompeii.
The news every so often mentions how the site managers of Pompeii get tourists dumping back the stuff they took from Pompeii because they supposedly started experiencing bad luck after taking objects from Pompeii so every year, there is a pile of returned "stolen goods" that makes the news.
>>71309257

We couldn't stop it. Hopefully, the future will favor our posterity, and we'll learn from these errors.
>>71311497
Huh, that's interesting. Thanks for the info. Being a Gnostic adherent, the phenomena, associated with the relics, doesnt surprise me.
>>71311393
Not without rendering a swath of the country uninhabitable, due to lava, and toxic gasses. Even then, that sort of activity (with the drilling, explosives required, etc) could set it off.
>>71307507
Well, first, you mean volcanic winter, "nuclear winter" as coined by Carl Sagan has been debunked as junk science.
Second, you've got no idea what you're talking about. Humans have lived through multiple super volcano eruptions. Shit we even had a monster erupt only 200 years ago and it had so little impact that you weren't even aware of it.
Scientists can't even agree on how bad or long the cooling would be. However bad it is, it wasn't enough to kill off humans with nothing more than spears. I doubt humans with nuclear power and hydroponic technology will have much trouble.
>>71311252
>Pots boiling

I think the only people I can say with 100% certainty who would notice zero change from Yellowstone blowing up is people who live in Siberia.
Would Yellowstone even make a difference for people who live in Siberia?
>>71298568
Have gay butt sex.
>>71312088
>massive ash clouds keeping sunlight away during summer

>>71297652
Ironic how Yellowstone blowing up would be a superior form of DDT and could cockblock Zika forever.
Compared to America carpet bombing the world with DDT since WW2 to 1970 and failing to find a good replacement for DDT ever since, all that volcanic ash would fuck up a mosquitoes favorite habitat on a global scale and possibly make some if not all of them extinct.
>>71308269
>24,000 megatons per second
nope, more like 24,000 megatons total.
>>71312151
This. Also, it's closer to ground zero than even Moscow. They already experience the coldest temperatures on earth (outside Antarctica); it'd turn into The Day After Tomorrow over there. Remember, animals really *did* freeze instantly, standing, in place, still eating.
>>71312300
so it's nothing?
>>71312602
Like snow that doesn't melt, gets into your longs, solidifies when moist, and gives you instant black lung. From which, you almost certainly die, if the cocktail of toxic shit in the ash doesn't kill you first. It's also extremely fucking hot; the ash's initial, high temperature is partly why it's so air-buoyant, despite its density.
Also, that said, it's as dense as concrete. If your house is covered, it collapses. You go outside, you get covered and get crushed, or asphyxiate.
>>71312244
10 millimeters of ash is about 50 pounds per square yard
Damn near every tree in the country would collapse from the additional weight, and the ones that don't would die from not being able to receive sunlight. Roofs would collapse, plants and animals would die on an extinction scale, fish would suffocate, pretty much the end of days. You know there was a mini ice age triggered by Krakatoa? Yellowstone would be 2-10 times more powerful, depending.
>>71297652
This is great. I dont get an ash
>>71312528
Honestly I'm finding very conflicting answers. The only constant I see is that the last Yellowstone eruption blew 240 cubic miles of ejecta
>>71312503
>Render mosquitos extinct
IT may not bother you much, being they're not a staple of your diet, but a lot of animals would be a touch upset, so to speak. Think of the ecological impact vs. A few less Africans dying to malaria, rather than child soldiers. Zika isn't, itself, a solid enough justification.
>>71312870
>>71312979
So, go underground, but lots of preserved food, vitamins, gas masks, air filtration systems, etc?
