Was in italy on a tour last summer. Be aware of pick pockets in ALL crowded areas. Places like the coliseum, and other major tourist areas are major hot spots for pick pocketers and snatch-and-grabbers. A lot of the riff raf was brown, not sure if they were new "refugees" or not, but the sandy population seemed to be the key threat.
Avoid Lampedusa.

Every big city south of Rome is fucked up. The South has the best beaches but is the most dangerous place too, full of refugees and mafia.

Gypsies are the ones you should be more aware of, niggers and north africans do try to at least sell you stuff, maybe very annoyingly, instead of straight up robbing you like subhuman gypsy scum.
Despite that, it's actually fairly safe all around Italy as long as you take some simple precautions. South Italy is very safe as well as long as you don't try to get in trouble yourself and stick to tourist places.
