The image is drawn to make the 5 look like the height. That's impossible because it would violate the triangle inequality: the hypotenuse of the triangle (8) can't be greater than the sum of the other two sides (in this case, 5 and 2).
Actually, the height here should be 2*sqrt(15) ~ 7.7 if I worked it out correctly, which would mean you can't draw a segment of length 5 like that at all.
