Probably the way a lot of white people were raised. It's quite common in a middle class, white, household for both parents to work 40 hour per week careers and don't have the time or energy to cook a proper meal in any real way, let alone teach their kids.
Also many younger white kids are lazy as fuck so no one wants to cook when they can just make a sandwhich out of shitty non-deli meat.
Fortunately for me my mom is a great breakfast cook and dad for dinners/lunches. Both are physically disabled so they're always home.
Seriously though there's so much shit you can make in the time it takes to make a sandwhich that are legit as fuck.
Great lunch: French Bread Pizza

>Initial small sprinkling of shredded mozzarella
>Sprinkle on some oregano leaves and crushed red pepper
>Add topping
>Final layer of cheese

It triggers me so many of my fellow college students can't cook and flaunt it like it's a shared trait to be proud of like when everybody is failing a class together.
