Ford had no intention of racing the 2005 meanwhile the 2016 has been raced and won (at Le Mans of all places).
The 2005 was just meant to sucker baby boomers into paying $150k for a Ford by making it look like a GT40.

The previous gen is the only Ford GT to have never won Le Mans. It's objectively the worst of the line. That's why no heritage edition livery is being made of it for the new GT.
