you have backwards land opinions, so you probably wouldn't like the smiths.
>>
Also forgot to say i have heard a few Smith song before and i didn't like em(How Soon is Now, Please Please and There is A Light)
>>
Give The Smiths and Meat is Murder a try.

Yes, Vauxhall was probably my favorite or second.

Aside from a few good tracks (This Charming Man, Hand in Glove, Reel Around the Fountain and Still Ill), this is a fairly disappointing album. There are too many moments where nothing is happening musically and the lyrics/vocals are clearly not fully developed as this is the first Smith album, overall i’d rate the album an 5/10 probably won’t be listening to the rest of The Smiths discography and just stick to Morrissey’s solo stuff.
>>
>>66361722
Curious how would you rank the solo albums
>>
>>66361888
1.Vauxhall And I
2.World Peace is None of Your Business
3.Ringleader of The Tormentors
4.You Are The Quarry
5.My Early Burglary Years
6.Southpaw grammar [Legacy Edition]
7.Viva Hate
8.Maladjusted [Legacy Edition]

This is a truly puzzling opinion, but I guess I can see how it's possible. Which half of Viva Hate did you dislike? It's basically Strangeways, Here We Come, Part 2. Strangeways is a massive shift from the self titled album, you might like it

Morrissey cringe is great but the old woman in that vid (not Kathy Burke) is too embarrassing for words. And definitely not in a good way

He was operating on a level of post-irony unheard of in the 80s

>>66366244
That's a shame. It's the closet they ever were to his solo output.

You might find this funny: the piano on Death of a Disco Dancer was improv'd by Morrissey during the recording, and he refused to let Marr redo it

Ah ok have you seen the Dagenham Dave, Girlfriend In A Coma and You're The One For Me Fatty videos cause they're quite funny.

>>
>>66373522
Bees knees tend to be used by them for carrying pollen - hence they are wonderous things, and so it means "You're great".
But the line "Two lumps please, you're the bees knees, but so am I" is used to suggest boredom - ie people who have nothing to say to one another once the niceties have been done away with.
>>
>>66373555
I had read somewhere that bees knees meant "really good at sex" in this context. maybe genius.com

The song itself could conceivably be about child molestation, although I doubt it.

I think it's relatively straightforward; a young (though not necessarily too young) person falls in love with a persuasive, and probably somewhat strange, older peer. The two carry on a brief and most likely clandestine romance that has a significant transformative influence on the younger individual's psyche. The relationship ends. They part ways.

It happens.

First off i just wanna say the HoH versions of the S/T songs range from garbage to ok, except maybe What Difference Does It Make.

The songs i’ve haven’t heard range from good to awful, These Things Take Time lyrics wise is very good everything else is awful, i’ve heard How Soon Is Now? Before though i didn’t like it then and i still don’t like it,Handsome Devil lyrics and music wise it’s very good though it sounds like Morrissey had a cold during the entire song like several of the songs on this album,Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now meh is what i thought it, it' ok but that’s about it,
This Night Has Opened My Eyes is probably my favorite song of this album and probably my favorite Smith song,Accept Yourself good lyrics bland music, Girl Afraid is probably my second favorite song off the album,Back To The Old House like the lyrics and kinda like the music don’t like the singing, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want another song i’ve heard before and also didn’t like it then and still don’t like it.

Overall i’d rate the album a 6/10

this is shit
strangeways is their signature "le look at me guys i like the bad and unpopular one!!!!" album, it is by definition contrarian.
the queen is dead is my favorite and their best but it's pleb as shit.
meat is murder is not contrarian. it's not really patrician either so it's pleb. and so is the s/t. the smiths are my favorite band but i don't think they ever made any truly patrician music.

back when i was a pleb still using spotify, i added their discography to my library because i heard about them somewhere. i originally kept putting it off as your typical tumblrcore garbage until one night i decided to listen to it to see for myself it was really as bad as the other stuff those fags like. i picked the queen is dead first because it was the shortest album. best decision ever.

moz probably

he really likes those two albums, a lot more than the solo stuff that came before. their lukewarm reception coupled with the smiths trial is probably why he disappeared for like 7 years after maladjusted

i'm all for reissuing albums with new stuff but the morrissey camp really screwed up with his solo records; reordering, removing and adding songs, different edits and mixes. just a mess in general. like removing roy's keen, wasn't that deemed good enough to become a single at one point?

maybe it's just me but unless your albums were fucked over for non-artistic reasons like label interference or in-studio incompetence (heartbreakers L.A.M.F. for example) you can't go around presenting 'new' or 'definitive' versions of them, because then it's bound to happen in perpetuity

and while southpaw got a nice cover, this artwork is far from 'stunning'

well regardless of song quality i think it's a shit practice. morrissey's discography just became an ever bigger mess than it already is

>>66400332
that one didn't sting as much, sure, but would it be okay to reissue, say, abbey road with a different track order, add a couple of songs, switch out polythene pam and the end with the anthology versions and put it out like pic related? i dunno man
>>
>>66400598

Why the fuck would you listen to all of Morissey’s solo records before listening to The Smiths, are you insane?
>>
>>66384711
I was always a heavy metal fan, growing up. I liked some other sounds, but I had a heavy metal heart. I was 12 in 1992, when Morrissey and his band performed "Glamorous Glue" and "Suedehead" on Saturday Night Live, and I remember loving it. That riff, coupled with his singing and the whole band's "basic rock and roll" style, as I perceived it, was completely different from the sounds I tended to lean toward. That was the start.
Shortly after that, I started regularly listening to the excellent Philadelphia radio station, WDRE (103.9), which sadly changed formats in 1997 from modern rock to hip hop/RnB. WDRE was a great radio station, especially as a rock-loving teenager in the 1990s. Within any given hour, you could hear Nirvana, Talking Heads/David Byrne solo, Metallica, The Smiths/Morrissey solo, The Pixies/Frank Black, and any of the myriad other odd groups from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. And they didn't just stick to singles - it would not be uncommon for the DJs to play weird album cuts. I used to hear so many Smiths and Morrissey songs on there. I definitely give that radio station a ton of credit for influencing the kind of diverse musical taste I still have today.
Between that, and my first CD copies of Strangeways, Louder Than Bombs, and Viva Hate, I'm a lifelong fan.
>>
>>66402365
Because i've heard a few Smiths songs before and i didn't like any of them(How Soon is Now, There Is A Light and Please Please) and people said his solo stuff is different from The Smiths
>>
>>66384711
In 2014 I went through a really tough breakup with a girl, and so in order to help with a little catharsis I looked up saddest breakup songs of all time and came across "I know it's over".
It sounded so alien and lyrically different from anything I'd ever heard so I decided to listen to the rest of "The Queen is Dead". I'm not going to lie, it was profound, I felt like it was the only music in the world that was being written about people like me and our lives. Since then "The Smiths" and Morrissey have become an obsession; I own every one of their albums, and have seen Morrissey live.
