because you and your ancestors would be considered as strangers in your ancestral lands. Your ancestors left the country they came from, and thus they have nothing to do with that country anymore. They decided to abandon their homeland in favour of America.
Europeans are all shamed of their homogenous heritage and jealous of American diversity.

Because your ancestors were people who, by leaving their country, were by definition not proud of their heritage. You may be part irish but you are descended from people who explicitly did not want to be irish.
