but nice things make me uncomfortable
>muh huge pile of fried shit on a plate
>muh 2L soda
>muh "normal food"
I've been eating fast food every day since I was a kid and it feels normal to me. Meanwhile you pretend to like vegetables and pretentious meat and I bet you can't shut up about how you exercise (nobody likes to exercise) because you are so insecure you have to make sure you're not a normal healthy weight. Put some meat on those bones!

This. The idea of eating for comfort seems absurd to me, like someone is looking for emotional validation from a meal. And the foods labeled as comfort food are almost fatty starchy shit. Like being "comfortable" means you're working on becoming obese.

Fuck that.

that's the fucking point m8

it's comfort food because you aren't worrying about the effects of the food
>>
>>7095610
>it's comfort food because you aren't worrying about the effects of the food
I guess if one is given to worrying about food that could be liberating. But experience has taught be sitting down to a large portion of something that's fatty, salty and starchy will leave me feeling thirsty and lethargic after, so I generally avoid those kinds of foods. Also I like a bit of acid and spice in my food, and most comfort foods are lacking in those kind of flavors, so I'm not really drawn to them in the first place.

But it still seems to me the idea of comfort foods is a little fucked up. You're not eating them for hunger, nutrition or even pleasure - it's like they're supposed to satisfy some deeper emotional need. It doesn't strike me as particularly wise to look at food that way. "I'm feeling sad or depressed, so I'll take solace in a bowl of mac and cheese." That seems like a terrible idea.

But anon discomfort is only set in grand greater relief by comfort. Comfort is the prolonged suspension of suffering.

In 1984 I was sent to the side of a mountain in northwestern Turkey. I went for a year without a hamburger. When I got back home I bought 2 of these. The first one was for the celebration, the second one was to savor. Say what you will, I will never forget the taste of that hamburger. I made a promise to myself that day: I would have a hamburger any time I wanted one.

Further: A few months ago I went to a trivia contest to help punch up the questions and verify the ones they had. I sat down at the 'pick up' table with a couple in their 30's, the parish priest, and a kid about 12 yrs old.
A question came up about the Cold War. The kid looked up and said, 'Cold War? What was that?
At first I was disappointed. I paused for a moment, looked over at the priest, gave a slight grin, and lowered my head for a moment thanking God that kid didn't know. Then I got up and left.
