I like poking around in vintage/antique shops. They tend to have a decent selection of more unusual buttons.
I still have no idea where to get cute buttons that aren't for baby clothes though. All the cute ones are tacky as shit on closer inspection.

Like >>9058613, I will go to a local thrift shop and browse some of their nicer jewelry. They normally have a variety of nice pins/brooches. Pic related are some ones I picked up awhile ago for some friends. (Gorgeous, but I wear a lot more sweet) I also found a gold carousel horse for myself.
