The hydrogen undergoes nuclear fusion which releases radiation (i.e. Gamma rays) which are sent outwards towards the planets. This radiation is what causes the light and warmth we feel/see on earth

Heat travels through space by a method callled "Radiation" it is a way enegery is transfered through the medium or lack there of, in empty space. Conduction of heat happens in solids. Convection for gas and liquid, radiation for no physical atoms to transfer the heat enegery.
And also you would not freeze instantly it would take 8 minunites for you to even realise the sun had dissappeared by going into total darkness. And probably awhile longer maybe 1 hour, before the cold really started to sink in for earth.
