My gf and I go to the same college, but we live over 9 miles away, so for most of the summer, we'll be in a long-distance relationship. We've done alright for a while, but now we're getting to points where we're texting and run out of things to talk about, and have hour-long gaps in our conversations. How do I fix this, and should I be concerned?
I don't live in a country where we measure distance in miles, but isn't 9 miles not that far?

I don't think you should be concerned, just don't force conversation, an hour long? That's not bad. My boyfriend lives an hour away but because of work I still only see him about once a week, we text every day but some days it's only about five texts between us. Just having some sort of daily communication/checking in, and making time every week or two is the main goal OP - 9 hours is SHIT though and I don't recommend a LDR (even of just 9 hr) unless you do trust that person and really care deeply.
Don't stress about gaps in conversation, and don't stress about not always having stuff to say - me and my boyfriend are two of the boring-est people ever but we still manage to chat.
Just enjoy each other and make sure that you're communicating problems/trust with each other well too.
