They take place in the same universe. In GGG Final you see Betterman Characters in a couple of scenes. Artbooks and the like mention that Liger got the idea for Mic Sounder's Disc X attack from studying Nebula's attacks.

In the planned followup to GGG Final (that never came about) several Betterman Charaters would have ended up joining up with the GGG as pilots in robots that would combine Gstone, neuronoid, and betterman technologies.

TechTV's anime block on...Monday nights? First dark/adult anime I ever watched. I thought it was incredible.
