Anime use to be easy to watch on YouTube before all that copyright bullshit which happened years ago. Prior to most videos being removed, AMVs were the only thing in the way of me and my bro watching Naruto on YouTube. This was a dark age before I knew that there were websites solely dedicated to subbing and watching anime. Also, AMVs are gay shit that even my 12 year old self thought were a gay waste of time. They are now a mild annoyance when trying to find classic episodes only to encounter shitty AMVs and English dubs.

The problem with 99 percent of amvs are it's made by fags who think editing is everything. They don't understand that fundamentally some music doesn't work with certain series, but they don't care they just throw in whatever they want and think "good editing" (which isn't even good editing half the time it's just faggots lip syncing to the lyrics or making a literal interpretation of the lyrics on screen) is enough to cover that. I mean think about it, people adding buttrock shit to something like One Piece. I mean I guess taht angsty bullshit works for something like Naruto, but that definitely is way out of tone with something like One Piece. If you're gonna set a song to One Piece or JoJo or whatever it needs to be something inherently silly and over the top, not some edgy buttrock shit.

In theory, you are right. It is completely possible to make a stream with the same video quality as downloaded files (in fact, some torrent clients support this exactly by downloading media files in streamable order). But in practice, every streaming site uses very ugly lossy compression to save bandwidth.
Likewise, there is nothing objectively wrong with the concept of AMVs, it's just that most of the existing AMVs out there are garbage.

Western ones seem to lack the charm and ingenuity most of the time. It could just be that the cream tend to get cross posted from NND to YT though. Very few AMVs are set or timed to anything interesting or representative of the series in questions. Very few are done comically edited audio clips, and there's a whole subset that get so fucking artsy and up themselves for the yearly competitions that I you wonder why they didn't just draw most of it themselves (and in some of those they are really, really heavily edited scenes anyway).

I actually don't hate the concept but I don't enjoy most because of the shitty music they tend to use. It also takes special kind of music to get an AMV right and you can't just put any song in one imo. I think AMVs could kind of bastardize a song if the song had a lot of emotional context about something in the artist's life and you just decide to throw it into blender of a bunch of sad anime scenes. I was actually considering doing some AMVs with some songs I like, but I don't know how I'd go about it. The concept feels like it would work better in my head than put into action and something about it doesn't feel right as a music fan, despite AMVs paving the way for me to find better music.

Honestly I don't think streaming is anywhere near as bad as you described it. I found some sites that stream anime, and while it won't be absolute best quality possible, some have managed to impress me and come pretty damn close to. Also streaming works out for certain people, particularly for those who don't have the money to spend a ton of money on a external hard drive just to watch Taiwanese flip books. I see so many people who spout this ">streaming" nonsense when in reality, streaming isn't all too bad of an alternative and technology has definitely advanced in the past few years past the point of everything streamed being in 144p 30fps.
