Alright, I’ll try posting this again. I've made backups of the LNs and textbooks from the CoR, and I think it would be helpful to try to distribute them. There's ~140gb of LNs, and ~60gb of learning materials.
I believe I've fixed the LN torrent. I’ve also edited the learning materials torrent to run better. You’ll need to turn on DHT to download.

Keep in mind though that although it's easy to think stuff is really rare just because you haven't seen it, it's also somewhat easy to think something is common when it actually isn't because of limited experience, like maybe you've played a lot of games by one company and it appears in all those games, and therefore you think it's pretty common.

>>139226718
Nothing.
This newer guy just wants to imprint his ego on something someone else did a while ago. It pretty much sums up current DJT, really: general started up by someone ages ago with a small community driven guide then it gets taken over later by some anon who wants to introduce opinionated changes in order to make it "his". Then you have the new manifestation of the thread being a website for all of the smaller guide and resources pages, originally set up out of pocket by some anon who went out of his way to make sure that anyone could host it all as easily as possible.
Since the original thread/guide anon left, the thread slowly went from having a rather free open ended form to a highly regimented thing with a set image and memes at the start of every thread, people freaking out if anything changes at all.
Then you have the newer resource/site maker anon who left and those who took it over let everything stop, got pissy at suggestions, being so lazy that they allowed a huge chunk of the resources to be left in the whim of a single anon. To top it all off the newer anons who have made this thread their little safe space are defending avatarshitposters and defending the current host anon when he desperately tries to create a boogeyman over the recent cricitsm of anons who rather have djt a product of /a/ and not something hidden beyond a commerical website as though it is necessary.
The whole thing is a mess at the moment because the creators left and left everything in the hands of egotistical manchildren who want to control something they arbitrarily inherited at the cost of the community for which is was designed to be openly used and freely distributed. The guide and site went from 'here is something feel free to use and these are all the changes that were made and here is how you can recreate your own version without the changes you don't like' to 'fuck you, accept this and don't ever complain'.
>>139227784
That's the one. Thank you.
>I wish VNDB would just steal the number from EGS instead of the really vague 10-30, 30-50, etc.
Indeed, I was trying to see how long Fate/Stay Night is and they only list it as 50+ hours, which could mean just about anything.
So, I finally took a decision and deleted every single game I had, and am not downloading any for a while. I am going to start grinding Heisig once again (did it for a couple of days, got to some 150 kanji and stopped) and, after that, Genki for grammar. I have two friends who are having free classes with a Japanese native, but since I can't afford daily transportation I have to self-study, but at least I have people to talk about it. I do intend on posting my progress here at least weekly, if not daily. ETA for RtK 1 should be July/August. Wish me luck anons, I don't want to relapse into lethargy and depression anymore. This time I will prevail.
>>139227921
Seems like a twisted way of viewing it.
Aren't you the one trying to force the thread to conform to your own view of what it should be?
>>139227992
Good luck, anon.
Did you drop it last time out of boredom? I wonder if you wouldn't find it more interesting if you learned vocabulary first so you could get into reading sooner. Doing RTK by itself can be a bit of a grind without a reward for a while.

Last time I was isolated in a place with no Internet, or any kind of technology for that matter, with an INSANELY boring 10 hour job, but I had enough time to study at least. When I came back to the big city, internet+tablet+laptop meant I abandoned Japanese for the fast rewards brought by gaming. Isolating myself as much as humanly possible from the Internet should be the best way to try and replicate those conditions once again. Finding a job and start working out again are my 2 other priorities. I will just occupy myself with things that actually allow me to express other sides of my personality. Gaming and academic pursuits means that I am a pretty rational, analytical, logical person (thus I can just grind RtK and convince myself that I'm going for the long game), but I've always neglected my social, emotional and physical sides. It is time I start diversifying my bonds, later restart my Uni, live a holistic lifestyle and embrace things I love but never took the time to do, like learning new languages.

So I'm a rather new beginner to Japanese, and I am currently a little confused about where to go next. I began my Japanese study by learning the basics of all of the kana, and then I went went to study kanji in RTK, in which I am about 600 kanji through. I know what I need to do next, but I don't know exactly how to do it.
What I want to tackle after RTK is pronunciation, vocab, and grammar. Grammar, at the very least, should be simplest; I'm planning to go through Tae Kim's guide and pick up the rest through reading of actual text. However, I'm more concerned about vocab and pronunciation, as I've heard mixed advice. Some say to learn pronunciation of kanji, and some say to learn only the pronunciation of vocab and that will teach me all I need to know.
So what should I do, and which resources should I use? I was planning on using memrise or a really helpful iOS app (simply called "Japanese") for vocabulary. Also which should I do first: vocab and pronunciation, or grammar? Or should I do both at the same time?
Edit: I apologise for the stupid comments that have been put in this thread. They are members of an ace attorney discord I moderate, and a common joke is that I am learning Japanese to play the unlocalised Dai Gyakuten Saiban. They are out of line, and please disregard them.

I can read most manga relatively quickly. It's visual novels and light novels that make me stop every few words.
So, I learned 1400 kanji. Is this enough and I can start grammaring now? I heard that this amount of kanji will be enough for the first year of reading, is that true?
>>139232457
If that statement is true, either your sample size is far too small or you're ignoring a fuckton of the dialogue and missing a lot. 2k is not enough for most manga.
>>139232508
You should have started grammar right from the first kanji or even before.
There is no set amount of kanji that will be enough for x years of reading. You will always encounter some kanji you don't know, it's just a matter or how rarely. Your biggest problem is how many actual words you know, not kanji.

I know 1400 kanji so I guess about 1400 words. And I know the common words like arigatou etc, but I actually don't know the kanji for arigatou, gozaimasu and stuff like that. But isn't it better to study the kanji before starting the complex grammar?
>>139232593
>I only read comics for grown adults such as myself
>>139232597
>But isn't it better to study the kanji before starting the complex grammar?
IMO absolutely not. It's best to do everything in parallel, that way you can connect the dots much easier and get a balanced knowledge and skill of the language.
I don't know how long you spend learning all those kanji, but if you barely know any grammar or actual words, you still can't speak or read at all. So did it feel like a good use of your time?
>>139232641
Not even grown adults. Read pretty much anything outside of that braindead bubble, even moe-yuri stuff like Stella no Mahou, and you'll be blown the fuck out. 2,000 isn't enough for anything except stuff so simple you can look at the pictures and understand everything going on.

There's a lot of kanji and vocabulary to learn, I'm not even talking about the complex grammar. Do you really think it can be handled simultaneously?
>>139232708
It's a sci-fi manga where a guy is about to die due to disease so he's given a Lover, a artificial human generated from the genes of a dead individual with modified intelligence to fall in love with him. It's a pretty interesting medium through which to express the transience, and perhaps shallowness, of love. It's a pretty grim manga.

But I start feeling uneasy when I look at a native Japanese text, it's just to hard for me... Some stuff written for beginners is fine, but the stuff with no furigana/roumaji is just too much for me at this point.
>>139232869
>Did I do something terribly wrong
Yeah, sorry. The fundamental act of language learning is reading. It is by far the most important (along with listening) thing to do to learn a language. You are suggesting waiting two whole years to start! Well, thats how I interpreted it anyway. That's a terribly wrong philosophy that'll hurt you a lot since its' the opposite of true.
It is through the struggle of conquering native Japanese text that one improves. Smile in joy every time Japanese intimidates you, for every drop of sweat you shed tackling it down is a leap forward towards fluency. Seek challenge and devour it.

I haven't come across anything with much difficulty. I mean I've pretty much only read shounen shit like spirit circle and mahou tsukai no yome and I'm fine with reading only those. I'd rather start reading VNs or something I want to read rather than trying to read something I might not like.
>>139232781
yeah. it's more work for a while, but it makes it easier when you do it simultaneously. think about learning a new word in your native language. it's a lot easier to do because you know about *how* you can use that word, which is because of your knowledge of grammar. because you know how it's useful to you, your brain finds it more pertinent to memorize, as you are thinking of possible ways to use this word.
instead of learning kanji and vocab in a sort of vacuum, learning grammar at the same time allows you to think of those words within a meaningful context. and this sort of thing gains momentum because grammar is a broader and more fundamental part of the language on which the finer-grained feature of words and kanji sit.
>>139233357
If you call Spirit Circle shit one more time I will fight you I swear to god.
But really, like I said, either your sample size is too small (only read a couple manga) or you're ignoring a lot. 2,000 is simply not enough words. It could also be that you know a lot more than 2,000 words but are underestimating yourself.

read all the item descriptions i'm sure? besides that there isn't a ton of language in souls, especially because the voices are english.
>>139233890
The item descriptions weren't tough at all. The voices were in English but I read the dialogue subtitles, pretty much every line of dialogue was different in the Japanese text than it was in the spoken English, so it was still worthwhile to do. The hardest part by FAR were the archstone worldbuilding descriptions, in describing the outlandish locations the vocabulary level increased dramatically. Also, if I hadn't read Hatsumira beforehand I would have been absolutely thrashed by a lot of the 言い方, though luckily I did so I wasn't.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE gaming (mostly analyst work rather than playing but still), but so much focus on it and college has completely gimped my life to the point I dropped Uni twice because of a lack of interest, which has been diagnosed by a psychiatrist as a mental block. Diverting my attention to other tasks and taking a slower pace was the recommendation and I hope Japanese helps me get out of this hellhole.
How is your Japanese now, after a year? How did you go about your studies, learning everything at once or isolating different parts and tackling them one by one? Are you currently able to read/watch the content you first wanted to? My main goal is to start reading VNs after a year, year and a half of deliberate studying.
>>139233958
in souls games, yeah. they're 10% descriptions of the item 90% lore and story. it's like the central way information about the world is very explicitly told in the games.

really interesting to know. definitely will replay that in japanese once i have the sufficient knowledge
>>139234202
All I did for the entire year was read VNs and do anki. I did a year of binge studying, but I had gone through Tae Kim and Core2k in the months before that, which means indeed I learned everything at once, there's no real need to put of grammar and you should start vocabulary/kanji the moment you finish kana so it's only natural to end up doing everything at once. Now I can read nukige/moege with 0 problems and keep up with anime fairly well, though I still need to practice. So in that sense I accomplished my goal, and its why I'm trying to ease back into video games.

>The guide and site went from 'here is something feel free to use and these are all the changes that were made and here is how you can recreate your own version without the changes you don't like' to 'fuck you, accept this and don't ever complain'
I really think this isn't the case. I have told people over and over that they are absolutely free to make copies of the guide and modify them however they want, to write their own guide and have it implemented or do whatever else they want with the guide. You can print it out and masturbate all over it, scan it in again and upload it in reverse page order for all that I care. If you think that it would make for a better guide than what there currently is, feel free to do so, I have no problem with it. If the community thinks that what you came up with is better than what we currently have, I will by no means stand in your way of doing that. If it's obvious that people prefer your guide over what we currently have I'll gladly implement yours over mine.
There's nothing stopping you from making an OP in the next thread which doesn't use the website that has been set up and instead provide individual links to what you consider to be better versions of the documents we have. If people think that it's better, then people will keep on using it. There's no universal rule, stating that you must strictly adhere to the OP in it's current form. The only person stopping you from changing things is yourself, and as long as you continue to restrict yourself like that, you are in no position to complain about things.
I rewrote the guide out of a personal conviction, a feeling of debt towards this community and because I thought I could create something better than the old guide. If you think that you can create something better than what I came up (and I do not doubt that you are capable of that), then by all means go ahead and create something better.

Furthermore, I don't think that I'm creating a boogeyman anywhere. I have a personal conviction which does not go hand in hand with wanikani, but nowhere in the guide is a "boogeyman" being made out of it. It is simply stated what it does and what it offers, in comparison to Anki. If you can't deal with the fact that Anki offers the same possibilities as Wanikani while being free and not crippling the learner in his progress, then that is your problem. Refer to my previous post about how you are free to create a new version of the guide which praises wanikani above all things if you feel like it.

If I may interject for a moment, I don't think it's good to encourage people to take initiative and post the OP themselves. That starts OP wars. It's best to collectively decide something and move forward with it on common ground. Rather than rush to make the OP and claim dominance based on speed.

>People in the thread seem to be quite aware of that kind of behaviour and it gets called out when it occurs. Furthermore, it gives me a chance to emphasise how everyone is free to create a new, better guide, which I think is quite an important thing to be aware of, so I don’t mind.
>People in the thread are free to voice their opinions on matters. Even if some people have trouble with reading comprehension or just try to misunderstand everything as much as they possibly could, I’d still defend their right to voice their uninformed opinions. That’s why I find myself drawn to the cesspool of shit that is 4chan and to no other communities. Even if everyone thinks you’re an idiot, you still have the freedom to voice yourself, without having to fear repression of some sort or having your comments hidden or deleted. As long as such freedom exists will I continue to be driven by my conviction. Should it cease to exist, my life will be given for my conviction.
>I feel like I go a bit overboard at times like these, but I feel like I might as well underline my stance when I’m already at it.

I'm currently going through Core2k/6k and I'm doing pretty well but on words that have a common Kanji I mess it up very often.
Am I best doing KanjiDamage on the side to help me remember vocab better, or should I just grab the common Kanji that bother me and learn them alone?

I initially had "if that was their true mission", but I didn't know if it was "If that was their true mission, I'd laugh" or somesuch.

>>139245825
It was briefly referred to by a Mieu (Mew) character from the end of the previous chapter (as this is from the beginning of the 2nd). She isn't present in this scene though. It's an internal duty among the remaining members of the clan, so you're right about that.
>>139245885
That was the meaning I got out of that too, which was why I felt safer shortening it, but I can see where I was making a bad habit of it if it's reading off as something else.
