Is KanjiTomo not opening for anyone else?
Does anyone here take medication to help them study? I would look into talking to your doctor about going on a low dose attention deficit medication to help you focus and put more energy into your learning. I had it prescribed to me based on family history. I was tentative at first, but it really makes a world of a difference. I'm motivated, productive, and I'm no where near the zombie I was afraid it would turn me into. I just wanted to share my experience with you guys to see if it can prevent someone from deciding 出来ない。

Sounds like a terrible idea, to be honest. Using medication that is for a certain neurotransmitter interaction for someone without said imbalances is just asking for trouble. Fortunately in my country there is no way on earth anyone would be able to get the sort of medication you are talking about without an evalulation from both a general practitioner and a registered psychologist. Where do you live where they hand out medication so irresponsibly?

You ever been to college? At least in the US, they hand out Ritalin and Vivance like candy. Book a (usually free) consultation with the university psychiatrist, say you have trouble focusing, take a five question evaluation quiz ("Do you feel like you struggle academically? Y/N") and bam, a fresh prescription, no further questions asked. ADD medication is one of the most bought/sold drugs on any campus because of it's A) availability B) practical effectiveness and C) relative lack of side effects.

Change it in the card formatting, but you might mess up your 200 older cards depending on which fields you were using there
>>139164275
I overestimated, it's just 50 cards. I guess I'll have to manually edit them then.
>>139164312
Wouldn't it be better to change your 200 cards so you can keep adding cards using rikai?
I read Tae Kim, read some other grammar guides, and am 1000+ deep in core. I tried reading Love Com and couldn't understand the first page while looking up the words I didn't know. I'm not really sure how else to study/practice.

>>139164312

>>139164442
I think you should continue trying to read it even if it's very difficult. That's just how it will be at first. Go through each sentence and look up both the words and the grammar and try to make sense of each one, slowly. More than reading grammar guides you should try to understand how things are used in context.
That said it will get easier once you know more words, sometimes trying to remember the meaning of each one in a sentence can overwhelm your ability to parse the grammar at the same time.

The thread is full of people who spend more time shitposting than studying so they wouldn't know what is "correct" or not.
Every time I've posted something in Japanese longer than a few words, it has been copy/pasted from 2chan and there is always one or two people who sperg out about it being wrong and to stop trying, without explaining how. It's mildly amusing to watch an anon fly headfirst into a post trying to make fun of it when it's obvious he doesn't have a clue what it means.
People here don't know shit, is the long and short of it. It's the same relatively small group of regulars for the most part who probably don't even study.

>learning japanese from outside japan and not around japanese people is a fools endeavor in the first place realistically and practically
This would hold true if it were impossible to receive massive exposure to Japanese as expressed by natives outside Japan.
Thankfully, DJT has discovered a solution to that: It's called Japanese media! It is readily available and easy to find in many places around the internet! This comes in just about as wide of a variety as you could hope for. If you're looking for more than just anime and videogames, you can look at podcasts (includes convenient samples of unscripted Japanese), news broadcasts, newspapers, documentaries, live action television, home videos, and just about anything else that you might want to find!
This media also happens to be a superior source, often providing things of interest and calling on more knowledge of the language than what's needed in everyday activities in the name of spiced up language and topics that aren't typical to daily life. A successful DJT denizen will acquire a vocabulary that's much larger than that of the average foreigner living in Japan. As such, should they ever decide to begin pouring a lot of work into their output, they'll have the groundwork to become far more articulate than your average foreigner.

Since it seems wise to try to make a backup of the CoR that can be easily shared, I have gone ahead and downloaded the entirety of the LN and learning material tabs in the CoR, and created torrents for each of the sections. They contain everything that is currently there, including the files that were uploaded in the thread over the past couple of days.
Altogether there is 63gb worth of learning materials and 145gb of LNs (of which 130gb are scans, and the rest text or ebook files). The only notable thing I believe I am missing is the All in One Learning Pack, which has not been reuploaded.
I think it would be worthwhile for at least a few people to attempt to archive these materials in case a large number of links go down again. The torrent files are here:
>Light Novels - a.pomf.cat/suaxwl.torrent
>Textbooks/Learning Materials - a.pomf.cat/iadoot.torrent
You will need to enable the DHT network in order to download from me.
The manga that still remains amounts to 370gb. I don’t have enough hard drive space to download that much, so I’m not able to make a backup of it, but if someone else has sufficient space it is easy to do a mass download using JDownloader. You could also make your own backup of the other sections using JDownloader if you didn’t want to join the torrent.

The reason its bad is because you think of Korea as a developed nation
I know associates who associate high commodity prices with "developed nation".
In developing nations you can conveniently get a open air meal (prob street food?)
If its done properly it should be fine to eat.
Japan has the same reasoning, hence loitering while shopping exists
Because you are eating at normal stores or open air stores its bad.

Sanitary issues are a problem because you think of it as a developed country
It's actually just a developing country that happens to have high prices (which is what tricks people into thinking it is a developed country) and if you understand that then you can realize how to get along there.
In a developing country you can't just go eating street food
You're fine if you eat at a real place
Sanitary issues are a problem because you go around shopping and eating as if you were in Japan

on top of that, i think pitch accent might also include "melody". then it would also be considering pitch in languages where pitch doesn't change the meanings of words. for example: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0StNBnCkut4

>>139177810
No, it is quite difficult.
Watch this video, it does a good job at explaining one aspect (but there are some others too): http://www.gwu.edu/~eall/vjg/08particlewa/08particlewa.html
One thing you need to realize is that は is a bit different to particles like が、を、に etc in that it is used together with another particle, to modify its meaning (like mark conversational coherence as explained in the video above). When you see は alone, it is usually actually either が、を or へ plus は. For these particles は replaces the original particle so it looks like it is は alone, but for others it is simply appended, like には、とは etc. も is also like this, it kinda has no meaning on its own, it needs to replace or append to a separate particle. So when you are asking the difference between が and は、you are also asking the difference between に and には、 を and は、と and とは, etc etc.
At least this is my understanding after 3.5 years of studying, but it might still not be entirely correct. As said it is difficult.

I know, compelling content and all, but there's no doubt that reading things before you have the grammar nailed down and a large enough vocabulary that you're not stopping at least every few sentences to look something up is not quite as fun or relaxing as reading things in a language that you fully comprehend. It's basically ruining that work for you.
Read things that interest you, but that aren't one of the big reasons why you started learning to begin with. Keep those works at the end as the big reward that's dangling in front of your nose. When you knock that shit out of the park, you'll know that you've made it.

However, my lack of real grammar study (I just learned it by trial and error so far) means that my knowledge breaks down when I try to read actual books.
What's a good book for grammar? I don't care about the rest of the content, I just need something that's good to understand how to properly read a structured phrase. The way a language book usually works is that it gradually introduces new things, and you're guaranteed to only have examples phrases for each new concept that only contains things you've already done before it.
TaeKim however feels more like a grabbag of things picked out on their own. It's informative if you want to know specific things, kind of like when you don't know a word and you open a dictionary, but it doesn't feel like an organic learning experience.

You are misunderstanding, it is referring to the fact that all sound waves moves in a medium such as air or water. 音 means sound in general, any kind of sound. There are plenty of compound words describing more specific categories of sounds like 声音、雑音 etc

Anybody here regularly visit 2ch and 2chan? Can I ask how to be able to make a post there from non-japan IP? I want to start practicing my production skill through conversations.
Also, where can I download VN games if it's not available on nyaa?
Esp. Vita games, like Prince of Stride for example.

I haven't found a way to post on 2ch but there are plenty of other forums in familiar formats. Here is a very active subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/newsokur
Many VNs can be found on for example steam, mangagamer, magino drive etc.
hey what's the name of that american bloke who made videos on youtube teaching drunk japanese, nama sensei?
Does anyone else practice reading out loud? I've been practicing lately with the Bakemonogatari books but damn, it's really difficult especially since Nishio Ishin likes writing ridiculously long sentences.

Yeah, Nama-sensei. His videos are currently down since youtube is trying to jew him out of his youtube money but they'll be back up eventually.

4chan is just obscure enough to avoid the censorship. They ban everything that deviates from religious law. They ban imgur too for example.
I am currently going through げんき and I have memorized about ~100 kanji from kanjidamage, also I am doing daily memrise exercising on the げんき lectures.
I want to step it up a bit and start trying to read something, very simple mind you, if possible a visual novel but even just some "fanfic" or novel/story that is easy to read (maybe just for toddlers? I don't know), however I can't find anything that suits my (still) very basic knowledge of Japanese. I tried reading through the resource list from the thread and all the "basic" or "beginner" ones seems to be still a bit too hard or complex for me.
Do you guys have something you would recommend or is it simply just too early for me?

Anyway jokes aside, as somebody who's learning Japanese but is not very far ahead, isn't 僕 used as an informal pronoun by males? All the textbooks seem to suggest to use 私 however in a more colloquial sense I see a lot of 僕 being used as well. Or is it bad?
>>139185656
I actually live in Japan, I still don't care one bit about their traditional culture, being able to speak the language and following the law should be enough. You can't make me care, Japan would be just another boring fucking country without otaku culture.
