Is there an anime that is as aesthetically depressing, bitter and desperate as Texhnolyze? Where the characters are destroyed by the world they live in? Texhnolyze had everything I've ever wanted in an anime. I've looked for a long time to find an anime of the same quality and similar elements but I haven't found it. There are authors like Matsumoto Jiro among others that can capture misery and mental instability, but not exactly on the same scale as Texhnolyze. Does anyone know of any series?

I heard Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku was depressing.

I've watched it. It was kinda just endless suffering for no reason. I wasn't really able to get into it, and it's definitely nowhere near Texhnolyze. Though I realize I'm probably asking for too much.
Read more manga. Saishuu Heiki Kanojo and Bokurano are similarly depressing like Texh. I haven't watching the SaiKano anime but the Bokurano anime is terrible and you should avoid it at all costs.

I've read both. I've actually read a lot of seinen manga. I agree that manga does a much better job capturing misery. Bokurano was amazing.

Even though it's literature you should read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. It's short and right down your alleyway.
Hell, you can play the old video game if reading isn't your thing. Both are solid
Maybe Angel's Egg?

Thank you! I will read it. I really like the summary and think this is something I'll enjoy taking slow.

I've watched it and loved it! Everything about that movie was deep. I'm definitely interested in that kind of apocalypse as well.
