If you want the first ova ever, check out Dallos. By Mamoruu Oshii, director of ghost in the shell.
If you want another one by him that better than ghost in the shell, check Angel's Egg.
If you want some awesome mecha by Gainax check out Gunbuster after that Diebuster. Very different tones and artstyles, but both are great. After the first watch I prefered Gunbuster, after the second Diebuster, don't know how that works.
