That, in all honesty, is because Music and Books don't cost a billion dollars to make. It is extremely rare that /v/ likes an indie game. Undertale, Cave Story, Touhou, Besieged, Bastion, and Minecraft are the only indie games that really spring to mind that /v/ actually likes. They also like shit like Yume Nikki but not in a "having fun" kind of way.
Meanwhile, with music me in my basement with a computer could make something just as great as the greats, assuming I were a genius. (I'm not a genius so that isn't going to happen, but it's possible.) And with books, there is no amount of money you could possibly throw at it to make it better, so indie books are just as good as the produced ones.

You're wrong about this. Most books have quite a large staff, it's just that all-but-one of them goes uncredited.
I'm hesitant to recommend this because the man is an utter, utter bell-end, but go read Charles Stross' "Common Misconceptions about Publishing". It's an interesting and detailed insider look at how books actually get written and published, and it details all the work that goes into published books (and doesn't go into self-published ones). Chiefly, the difference a good editing team can make is near-miraculous.
