Do you know any chords yet? I'd recommend learning some basic chords (E, Em, A, Am, C, D, G, are all good starts since they aren't bar chords) and then playing around with different four-chord progressions and strumming patterns so that you get a better sense of "freedom" and creativity with the instrument. Learning songs from that point will be easy, at least once you get bar chords down. Singing is the hard part.
