Hello I'm trying to create wi-fi access point on my laptop to use with my android. I followed this guide: https://nims11.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/hostapd-the-linux-way-to-create-virtual-wifi-access-point/ . I can see the network on my android, but I cannot connect, since it fails to obtain the IP address. Any idea how to fix this?

I can't be arsed reading that, but you need to provide a DHCP server if you want your clients to get IP addresses.

I did start a dhcp server tho.

ddns-update-style none;
ignore client-updates;
authoritative;
option local-wpad code 252 = text;

subnet
10.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
# --- default gateway
option routers
10.0.0.1;
# --- Netmask
option subnet-mask
255.255.255.0;
# --- Broadcast Address
option broadcast-address
10.0.0.255;
# --- Domain name servers, tells the clients which DNS servers to use.
option domain-name-servers
10.0.0.1, 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4;
option time-offset
0;
range 10.0.0.3 10.0.0.13;
default-lease-time 1209600;
max-lease-time 1814400;
}

I used this config, which I don't really understand.

Why are you telling them there's a wpad when you're not offering one?

Similarly, unless you're offering DNS, don't say you're a DNS server.

Can your phone ping your PC?
Can your phone ping 8.8.4.4?
Can your phone ping www.google.com?
