Can someone explain what this ad is trying to communicate? why is it manly not to put my drink down?
It is probably implying that 'manly' men stand around drinking beer with their friends, ala King of the Hill, or at least hold their beers in hand like in that old Budwiser Wazzap commercial.
Also that ad is for chewing tobacco, so it's relevance to drinking is tenuous at best.
does it say anywhere it's not manly?
if you only read what's there, it's just a stupid truism. coasters *are* for people who put their drink down.
if we assume their message is indeed that putting your drink down is wimpy (and you can definitely read it that way) i would assume it's because "real men" drink up and don't just take so few half-hearted sips that they need to rest their glass inbetween. just a guess though. i think many people view excessive drinking or high tolerance for alcohol as manly, for whatever reason...
anyway - their campaign seems to be successful. it made you stop, read and think. and that's all a good ad wants to do so over-thinking it might be futile.

People who smoke are likely to drink as well. Jus-sayin

People who smoke don't chew tobacco, chewing tobacco + alcohol is a terrible mixture.
It means you chug it down all at once so you wouldn't need a coaster no matter what.
God am I glad I quit chewing. I don't know what the fuck I was thinking in high school. So fucking stupid.
