Requesting really really old 4chan screenshots. Old, as in 2005 and older. I want to strengthen my collection.
>>3906
Go ask /r/4chan.
Oldest one I have.
from /b/, obviously
I'll post a few
If you traveled back in time to 2004, would you be able to continue browsing 4chan knowing that the community is what we now consider cancerous/reddit-tier?
Got these from a kind anon on /qa/
This thread is sexy.
>>4080
Probably yes. A handful of boards on 4chan are still largely tolerable, if not "good."
>>3941
ha ha ha...
I've yet to find a screencap of /g/ - Guro or /sm/. There's got to be at least a couple out there.
Hoping somebody here has a folder full of 2003-2005 screenshots.
I'm not OP, by the way.
>>4142
I have about 60 caps from '04 but only about 10 from '03. Most screencaps from '03 are probably lost forever.
>>4155
Bless you for all of the screencaps.
Is there a screenshot of the very first 4chan thread; I'm not talking about the time when moot accidentally wiped /b/ in Oct 2004.
>>4169
Highly doubt it. The first post on /b/ was made on September 30, 2003 at about 9:30PM, which was before 4chan was actually open for use. It was probably just moot saying "test."
found this in my 4chan thread folder, combing for moar
Where do you get all of these caps?
>>4187
found another one
>>4191
just lurking anon,just lurking...
>>4191
These are oldfags, I believe.
>>4191
Most of them I saved from 4chan/other forums, a few of them I took myself.
>>4199
and here is another one
>>4198
If I get tired of dumping I might upload the rest to MEGA.
>>4207
should i just link my mega folder of 4chan threads, its not all pre 2007 but its got a decent amount that i'm always adding too? its just synced of my local folder
>>4212
Do it, mang.
>>4080
Back then you visited 4chan for teh memes, not to escape the memes.
Here are some old saved threads:
http://www.archiveteam.org/index.php?title=4chan#Handmade_Archives
http://web.archive.org/web/20031122004728/http://www.4chan.net/
Not a screenshot but this site has the earliest of 4chan history. Very little, though.
I manually scraped the remnants from Wayback even (including a few images):
https://my.mixtape.moe/pxitfw.zip - 4chan.net
https://my.mixtape.moe/jdmujy.zip - img.4chan.net
https://my.mixtape.moe/tjiqoy.zip - oekaki.4chan.net
Enjoy anons!!!
>>4220
k, https://mega.nz/#F!T0h0BIrZ!Gd16rJx8h271NIpCpmdf7w
also, http://web.archive.org/web/20030715000000*/http://4chan.net might have some old af threads in html format (4chan.org doesn't get scraped due to possibility of cp, and 4chan has their scraper blocked in the robots.txt)
pss, why don't some of the other anons just dump there folders and such into mega like i have?
>>4241
>why don't some of the other anons just dump there folders and such into mega like i have?
They can but this is an imageboard. So images will get posted.
>>4241
I'm an archivist, mind if I make a mirror of your folder on to the Internet Archive?
>>4080
4chan is better now than it was in 2004.
>>4251
nah, i'm good, i'm an archivist as well anon XD
>>4080
People stuck around because it gradually became what it is now, not a sudden jump to being unable to browse half the boards
In any case, the internet as a whole changed within the last 10 years. Everywhere you go its a bunch of trolls trying to out provoke the next
>>4257
Thanks for letting me know. I won't then. I've archived 4chan folders on there for long-term storage before.
https://archive.org/upload/
>>4259
>Everywhere you go its a bunch of trolls trying to out provoke the next
Assholes are an integral part of the internet.
That's it for now... might dump more later.
Is the thread dying?
>>4277
>internet police
I wonder what would happen if you told old 4chan that the internet police will one day exist, and it's name would be Twitter.
>>4296
not with me here, i'm mostly just lurking, will post if the thread starts sinking if needed
>>4301
Thanks, because I'm not a 4chan oldfag, so I have no unique snapshots from 2003-2005. Best I can do is Internet.
So has anybody ever heard of Penfiften? It has a few hand-archived threads as early as 2004. vyrd.net even archived it.
Link: http://studionyami.com/penfifteen/
>>4318
oh yea,i know of that, quite a neat thing right there
http://rx.vyrd.net/ - Easier browsable archive of Penfifteen threads. Somewhat related, I mean, you can take screenshots of those webpages.
>>4331
i think this has turned into more of a "old 4chan media and shit" than just "old 4chan threads" anon
>>4338
I guess we get back on topic then?
>>4345
nah, its basicly the same thing,i love this kinda shit desu, been waiting for /wsr/ to become a thing so that these kinda threads can exist without being called a faggot or derailed, and /r/ just would never work out anyway just do to all of them being just cucks who want to know what that vore image came from
also, found https://trello.com/bibanon a while back, has so much shit in there, its like a repository of oldfag nostalgia
>>4293
>yfw those kittens are elderly if they are still alive
>>4353
wait wat, is desu a filter now?
Bumping with screencap.
>>4364
>now
Welcome back, anon!
>>4400
i honestly i have not idea what the filters are, i just thought i used t-b-h before and it didn't filter, but whatever, my mind is foggy due to this drunk posting
>>4413
That shitspeak was never welcome here
>>4425
Thanks anon, I was running out of 2003-2005 captures to post.
>>4215
Jesus Christ, here we are 10 years later and it isn't unheard of for people's collections to be hundreds of times that.
>>4370
anybody know where i can find the picture of the girl
>>4455
Have you tried reverse image search on Google or Tineye?
>>4474
afew times, nothing
Does anyone remember any of the old word filters?
I'd forgotten how retarded we were back then. Thanks for the nostalgia.
>>4478
Google is indeed swamped with reposts of the demotivational poster, but the original can still be unearthed.
Supposedly her name is 小倉優子
>>3941
/r/4chan is shit.
Most people on 4chan or on Reddit don't believe in crap they read on various screenshots, but /r/4chan will believe and gobble up any greentext story and ask for seconds.
>>4484
I remember nigger turning into roody poo.
I think one was newt gingrich or some shit.
>>4299
They're not the police, they're just an angry mob of the perpetually offended, but ultimately powerless and easily ignored as long as you hold back any personal infomation as anyone with half a brain well should
>>4080
U wot m8? Old 4chan was fucking glorious, stuff was mostly ironic instead of genuinely dumb, OC was abundant and threads were diverse.
>>4596
>stuff was mostly ironic instead of genuinely dumb
>>4633
the sad part is we actually were. then the raids happened and people started flooding in from habbo and gaia and etc and then pic related
Wow, no more 4chan thread screencaps, ha ha ha.
this is making me incredibly sad
i think what i miss the most is the nature of trolling.
>>4282
does anyone remember the name of that side bar thing? i know it's still a feature you can access on 4chan
>>4708
Frames.
>>4701
i don't know how i accidentally posted halfway through a post without doing the captcha but okay.
>i think what i miss the most is the nature of trolling
in that people trolled FOR LAUGHS.
back then it was
>look, i'm being an asshole and it's funny!
>everyone else: hah hah, what an asshole that guy is.
now it's like,
>look, i'm being an asshole. i've wasted your time or bothered you in some inconsequential way
>this means I am winning!
>everyone else: okay i guess
>>4712
thank you
I kind of wish I participated more on Something Awful during its heyday. I bought an account in 2002 but I never made a single post, let alone browsed for more than 20 minutes at a time. I was too young to know what was going on.
This site has a ton of old images from 4chan if you are interested http://macrochan.org/
>>4758
That site has a lot of images, all right.
I have never seen this many fucking old 4chan images prior to 2006 in my entire fucking life. This is fucking amazing.
>>4730
I really can't get into SA. From what I've seen, it has that same aura of passive-aggressive "quirky" trash (buzzwords, I know) you usually see on Twitter and probably Tumblr. It's a shame, because I heard that it used to be pretty awesome.
>>4869
SA is long past its prime. I regularily find myself surprised it even still exists. And o course it's barely any better than Twitter and Tumblr, considering the modern SJW movement online was brought to life by goons.
>>4896
>the modern SJW movement online was brought to life by goons.
I heard about this years ago, but never really paid attention to it. Mind elaborating?
These actual oldfags are so adorable.
I only started browsing 4chan in late 2005, around December if my memory serves me well. This was the only screenshot that I ever took myself. I laughed at dumb shit when I was 16.
Damn, are there any more to be posted? I think everything that's needed to be posted has been.
>>4370
Original.
>>4997
I guess I'm wrong then, ha ha ha
>>5000
Holy shit, I got a GET! Mommy come look!
>>4990
Sure, there's tons more
>>4997
Oh look, it's MrSpooky
>>4901
Happened pretty late in SA's life cycle after several competitors had sprung up (including 4chan) which drained SA of a lot of people who made into the hub for creative and, dare I say, funny people it used to be. At some point the balance eventually shifted in a way so that certain stuck-up and mentally unstable feminist/liberal types started to become dominant on the forums, and this development was enabled by lowtax himself who gave those guys moderation powers. I think "catlady moderators" or something like that was the term. lowtax wasn't even a liberal himself as far as I recall, but he actively hated SA and its community already and only kept it around to earn those proverbial ten bucks to finance his drug addiction. So you have those no-fun-allowed feminists taking over SA, trying to pretend they totally embody the spirit of fun Old SA, and that's where they became the first SJWs we know today. Because they adopted the most aggressive parts of goon culture and injected their ideology into it. The feminist goons started to raid other places nominally for "ebin lulz," because that's what goons did, right? Offend and flip off other people, ebin trolling. Only those feminist goons weren't really trolling at all, but actually meant it. Which is why they've never once been funny and always passive-aggressive. Pretending to be trolling was just a convenient recruitment tool in those early days, suckering in underage retards who wanted their part of those ever highly desired lulz that were promised. In the end, they gained enough momentum to evolve into the online phenomenon of the SJW thought police we know today. Since they're everywhere now, SA itself isn't even important to them anymore. Fun fact: The infamous Zoey Quinn is actually one of those former goons. The more you know.
>>4896
I find it completely bizarre going on twitter to see former posters from helldump and FYAD decrying 'online harassment'.
>>5007
Tons more? Does anyone have a MEGA link for 2003-2005 4chan folders?
These last few aren't 4chan, but they're semi-relevant.
>>5037
why did myspace have to die whhyyyy
>>5010
SA tended to be quite cliquey back in the day and people were a little obsessed with being 'in' and that's something that carried over the modern social justice crowd. Even though I liked some of jokes from there at the time, I really disliked that aspect of it. I think there was too much emphasis put on who said something and reputation - it didn't help that everyone's join date and previous posts were on display so it was far too easy for someone to be dismissed without even reading their post. I think there were a number of SA users who felt this way, including moot (which, I think, at least in part is why 4chan is anonymous) and they 'moved' to 4chan and took aspects of the culture with them, most notably the dumb or ironic sense of humour and image editing like the stuff in this thread. A lot of butthurt weebs also came to 4chan because SA was shitting on them, and I think even to this day, /a/ is a little more reminiscent of the old SA than most of other boards. Of course, early 4chan had other influences, like the usenet crowd, which explains I think explains attitudes about trolling and things and users have found the site from loads of other places over the years like ebaums, newgrounds etc. so 4chan culture emerged from a really weird mix.
sorry if this post is shit because I'm drunk as fuck right now so I've probably misremembered a bunch of crap and this is totally wrong
>>5010
Well shit, I never would've figured it started on fucking Something Awful of all places. Thanks for typing that all up man. Do you know what year this all "started"? I always associated it with 2010, but that's only when I started picking up on that kind of SJW behavior.
>Fun fact: The infamous Zoey Quinn is actually one of those former goons.
ayyyyyyyy
>>5067
Are you the same guy? Was just gonna say, this is really interesting shit. Thanks.
>>5075
I'm a different guy
>>5075
OLD SA WAS NEVER SJW, SA NOW IS FUCKING INTOLERABLE
EARLY /b/ WAS VERY FYAD, /a/ WAS ADTRW
>>5094
What time period are you referring to by "old SA"?
>>5087
There's also this one
>>5097
PPPPOWERBOOK WAS AROUND THE END OF GOOD SA
>>5094
>/a/ WAS ADTRW
In other words, it was boring as shit.
>>5104
m-more caps please
>>5104
>2004
I missed it by a long shot.

The 4chan exodus was the beginning of the end
This is a shitty board
>>5155
So is your mother.
>>5155
Better than /r/

born too late fellas..
>>4116
>HELLO GAYFAGGOTINC
>>5181
2009 join date is pretty common, isn't it? I also joined during 2009. I heard about 4chan earlier but I didn't bother checking it out.
>>5181
Same ;_;
>>5198
what up 09 bros
>>5181
You are me.
>>5033
thanks for shii.org theres an alright book
>>4651
The thing I find most funny about this picture is that people continue to post it without realizing that's a picture of Voltaire and not Descartes.
Somebody keep this thread running
>>3941
It baffles me how reddit has boards that are exclusively dedicated to discussing other sites.
wow look at all these anonymous users guys, fucking tripfags hey
>>7532
The fuck?
I've always wanted to watch something with original hype, like Lost or something similar that started in 2005ish
I wonder if there's a collection or way to do that anywhere
>>7587
He probably thinks that because early anons were all namefags being a tripfag today is fine
>>7602
I wanted to see /a/ reaction when "you know who" dies in the middle of Gurren Lagann. Too bad I started browsing /a/ in 2011.
>>5098
>Did you mean 'bane'?
>>7608
who is this he you are referring to?
>>7620
It wasn't anywhere near as crazy as Rossiu threads. Those threads spammed the entire board for days after those episodes aired.
>>4968
I laughed.
Someday, this will be old
>>7586
I used to know a guy who browsed in 5th grade.
I didn't start browsing until years later, and only then did it dawn on me.
>>9108
>hiro regime cap
Making history there, anon
>>9108
>IE
>>9233
Nice years-old outdated meme.
When compared to the alternatives, IE isn't as horrible as it used to be. If only because all alternatives are so shit nowadays.
