Never watched a tokusatsu show before what's a good place to start? Campy stuff is fine but I would prefer something genuinely good.

People will give you different options as "good" starting points. You'll have to be more clear. Do you want toku recs in general or specifically hero/kaiju recs? Is there any toku franchise in specific you want to look into? How do you feel about older stuff? What are some other anime or western toku-like shows you've seen and enjoyed?

For now I'll give some general recommendations. Old and new.

Ultraman (the original series)
Ultraman X

Gojira (original Godzilla film)

Winspector

GARO (start with the first season and continue watching in production order if you like it)
