I want to watch Saki but i'm wondering if it's necessary to have some knowledge about mahjong to enjoy it ? I don't know anything about mahjong. Is it explained during the anime or not and do you guys know where i can learn a bit about it so that i will not be totally lost during matches.

It certainly helps, especially as the series rolls on.
Saki was fine, but Achiga just lost me with the endless matches full of Mahjong gobbledygook.
Also it had very little wahaha.
It's not really explained at all but I don't think it's TOO relevant a lot of the focus is on the characters. It's hard for me to say though because I watched it after getting addicted to Chinese checkers.
Here is a pastebin of mahjong related stuff though if you want to learn, I made it for the /jp/ thread which probably won't help much but we'll answer your dumb questions if they come up and the Wiki/guides don't help.

So it's more about the girls than mahjong ? What's the tone of the anime then ? Drama, comedy or (yuri) romance ? Thanks for the pastebin anon. I was looking for something like that. I'll try to learn about the basics before diving into it.

Have ypu seen the picture drama with her? It's pretty funny

It's like a SoL so there's a good amount of drama and comedy. There's also some fairly heavy Yuri teasing but it's a far cry from romance. That one Yuri group actually dropped it for not being gay enough.
You should be totally fine just knowing the basics of how the game works and then you can consult one of the terminology list when something comes up you want to know.

Yeah seems like it's pretty light on the yuri, i heard it's only teasing nothing serious and i'm ok with it.
What about the order ? Saki > Zenkoku > Achiga > Achiga Specials ?
>>3943
Saki first and then it doesn't particularly matter because one is a side story.
I watched Achiga first because that's broadcast order but you can just watch whichever order you prefer, obviously the specials after Achiga though

Hisa is the best Saki
>>3958
I will go with broadcast order then, thanks anon. I'm glad to see that Underwater did the BD for all of them.
>>3958
It's not so much a side story as the train hurtling down the same tracks in the opposite direction.
Will they make a season 3?
>>3958
>I watched Achiga first because that's broadcast order
Wait, whut?
I finished Saki before Achiga was even broadcast.

I can relate to her habit of picking bad waits. Although that's just because I suck.
>>3991
No problem anon, have fun!

The first thing I said was "Saki first then..." I meant I watched it first excluding Saki so just before The Nationals

I can't believe I'd somehow not watched the picture dramas.
That was some good wahaha.
