Is there any point to buying a pre-build/refurbished/OEM desktop

I'm look to get a new computer, but my laptop still works fine, it's just got a (now) shit processor and memory space. I going to use mostly for programming, occasionally playing of old games (because fuck paying the gaymin industry to be a beta tester) and surfing and such.

Looked into getting a refurbished business laptop, but getting a new laptop seems sort of wasteful. Also looked at building my own tower, but I don't have the time for all the research to do beforehand and the testing and troubleshooting afterwords. I would like the computer to as quickly as possible. So I thinking of getting a pre-build/OEM desktop tower. Is that still a good idea, or would the other two options are so much better that I should forget about it?

It sort of makes sense to buy a desktop, if you're only looking for programming and old games (depends on how hold), but realy if you're buying a desktop you're probably gonna look towards upgrading it. I did this not too long ago, and managed to eventuawly work my way up over time to a better computer. If you're low on money this is what I'd do, but if not then I'd spend the time to research a custom pc. It's not too difficult.

Building a pc is like legos; it's about putting the right thing in the right place. It may seem daunting and complicated, but my 10 year old brother figured out how to build one, so it's realy not difficult.

With regards to testing and troubleshooting; there's not particularly much you have to do, for example I had to test what broke in my custom pc and it was abotu a half hour process. It was tedious, but since I found it out it'd be quicker to send the indivisual part then the whole pc.

If I were you, I'd either fully custom or buy a pc with either a good i5/i7 that has expandability, so if you needed more power you could put that into your pc.

that makes no sense and the other options are better in every way. Buy a laptop or build a desktop.
unless you want to get an imac for that screen or someone gives you a deal or something. There are reasons to buy a premade desktop, but I don't think you have them.
