To make a long story short, Ghostery is killing my Firefox performance and I'm not sure if I really need it. I already run NoScript, uBlock, and httpseverywhere. I know Ghostery blocks cookies which none of these others do, so would I be good if I swapped it for something like Privacy Badger?

Just fucking use uMatrix.

It does everything ghostery does, and much more, while being much, much lighter.

Also, ghostery only blocks shit through a black list. A properly set up uMatrix only allows shit through a white list, and blocks third party connections, cookies, css, images, plugins, scripts, ajax calls and frames unless you white list them. Per site.

Don't use ghostery. Use ublock with fanboy's ultimate and social blocking list.

Last time I tried uMatrix it didn't block anything out of the box. Did they change it, or is it still just a glorified version of the "hide element" feature from uBlock?

Does it also block cookies, or just JS?

Fuck knows if they changed it, but if they haven't, just manually configure it to block everything (though I allow 1st party css and images by default) yourself.

just use ublock, noscript/librejs, httpseverwhere and a modified hosts file

Then what's the point? I'm lazy, alright. Jesus, I can't see every fucking tracker that's on a webpage.

>>33455
Already use most of those things, though I use Peerblock rather than outright modifying my hosts file, and I have a separate browser profile specifically for sites I need to allow trackers for that I don't use day to day. I used to have a modified hosts file, but it caused more problems for me than it solved.

Use ublock+umatrix+self destructing cookies

By default umatrix allows 1st party links to work, this is probly why you think it didnt block anything.
Youll have to go in to the config and add
* * * block
To deny everything and worth as a whitelist for everything else.

OP here, decided to disable all of Ghostery's non-cookie blocking, relying on NoScript and uBlock to take care of the rest. Seems to be working pretty well.
