Are there any modern metroidvania style games that aren't

Are there any modern metroidvania style games that aren't gimick filled "so le indie so le randum" idiocy? I've tried all the popular ones and they all value their stupid gimmick over actual game play and end up being tedious messes about the third of the way through.

Also, stuff available on GOG would be best.
