I'd go for the Jam since the screen seems unnecessary, but either way I've always heard good things about the clips. Especially with how cheap flash storage is these days.
FLAC is good when you're at home with a good dac/preamp. On the go, you're better off with 320Kbps MP3 because it sounds good enough and its waaay smaller.
not OP, does this shit have a decent way to manage playlists and/or a decent way to manage music? I have the older one and its archaic as fuck in those regards
