I tried everything under View -> Video Frame but there's still black edges in the player. This never happened to me in my previous CCCP installations.
using A8 APU as onboard gfx (should be more than enough for decent playing).

All modern video stacks are entirely software-based, aside from certain wanky postprocessors that use CUDA/OpenCL.
Your GPU/AMD-onboard-video does nothing except provide a framebuffer and HDMI port.
This situation came about because hardware decoders never quite worked 100% right, and were never, ever, ever fixed, patched or updated; and because animu encoders were far too elite to use an actual industry standard, so they standardised around a format that no hardware will decode.

First thing you should be doing is view-->pan&scan-->reset .
