Please recommend me some character-driven comics that are neither ultra-violent, nor "political" (I don't care if there are gay or trans characters. I just don't want any agenda-driven rubbish). Some gore is fine, but it has to have purpose. I'd be open to cape, but not any marvel/dc ones. Mainly interested in stories that are bitter-sweet. Tragic is fine. Anything but super-happy stuff.
Forgot that picture was nsfw. Sorry.
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is like that.
Peanuts
Nedroid
Lost at Sea
Ghost World
Boxers|Saints has some very heavy character development, heavy plot and bittersweet ending
Owly may look like a cute comic but it deals with very human topics in an accessible manner, absolute tearjaker.
Robots Dreams is a wordless comic that leaves lots of ambigueties on the story and character but tells a very heavy story about friendship

Alan Moore's Miracleman is ultra-violent at certain moments, particularly one climactic event, but as it all serves a narrative purpose, so I'm sure you won't mind.
It's a semi-tragic character driven look at a Superman/Captain Marvel style flying strongman, and his place in the world. It's my personal favorite Moore work.
