Just a curious anon, do you use the cut tool and place points around the subject until you've surrounded the whole thing or is there an easier way to remove the background of images?

Yes. Although for quick things like this, I use the magic wand tool to select a huge area, then add or remove areas that it's incorrectly or undesirably selected.
