what order do i watch all the fate anime shit in?

i only really care about the anime, not the VNs.
>>
It doesn't matter that much but this part is vital:
If you care even a tiny bit about the original story and the characters of this series, avoid Prisma Illya at all costs. It's not canon, so you won't lose anything.
>>
Avoid the 2006 series simply titled, "Fate/Stay Night." This was produced by Studio Deen and is notoriously bad for botching the story and attempting to cram all of the routes into one season of anime, despite that making absolutely no sense at all.

Avoid the Unlimited Blade Works film. released in 2010 or 2009, also produced by Studio Deen.

If you really are so deadset on not reading the VN, then just watch the most recent anime production by Studio Ufotable, who adapted the Unlimited Blade Works route into a really good anime.
>>
I agree with >>150683

If you decide you want to watch Fate Zero, watch Ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works first.
>>
>>150713
What? Shit no. Fate/Zero should be watched first.
>>
>>150675
Don't listen to any of these misleading faggets. The only reason anybody watches Fate is because it brings you one step closer to what everybody really wants to watch. (Carnival Phantasm) to fully appreciate this series some say you've got to watch tons and tons of Type Moon series and become a legit Moon bro but I found that just watching Unlimited blade works and reading Tsukihime and using Wiki for everything else works just fine. Prisma Illya is another good spinoff anime but you could watch that alone and be okay.

The Fate franchise is not a linear path, it's a wheel. The central hub of the wheel is Fate/Stay Night, specifically the visual novel, which is the origin of the entire franchise. Everything else in the franchise branches off from it like the wheel's spokes. The outer rim of the metaphorical wheel is completed by the way these spin-offs, sequels, and prequels reference one another and constantly pull material from the entirety of the franchise as more titles are added.

This is a major reason why F/SN's visual novel is recommended as the entry point to the franchise. If you play it then you can proceed to any other Fate title and understand it just fine. The other major reason is that Fate/Stay Night's story has a lot of big twists that the spin-offs expect you to already know about, and therefore spoil rather casually. So if you don't start with F/SN you're basically ruining it for yourself.

All that said, if you don't care about ruining F/SN's story for yourself then who gives a shit where you start? You've already decided the optimal starting point isn't good enough for you, so just pick one at random.

No you shouldn't watch Zero first it ruins some
reveals.

OP I personally wouldn't bother with Fate/stay night, it's incredibly shit and full of QUALITY.

Here's the order I would recommend
Unlimited Blade Works 2014 by Ufotable
Fate/Zero
Fate stay/night 2006 by Deen(I would just skip)
Carnival Phantasm
>>
>>150791

I fucked up my post it should be

>Unlimited Blade Works 2014 by Ufotable
>Fate stay/night 2006 by Deen(I would just skip)
>Fate/Zero
>Carnival Phantasm
>>
>>150755
>>150791
>>150795
so as i understand it, there's 3 routes, and the adaptations cover these different routes? and fate/zero is a prequel?

so if i skip the fate/stay night 2006 anime then i'm missing out on the first part of the story?
>>
>>151147
>and the adaptations cover these different routes?
Fate/Stay Night has never been fully adapted. That's why the visual novel is recommended. To clarify:

The 2006 anime by Deen mostly follows the first route, simply called the Fate route. However like another anon mentioned it starts trying to combine stuff from the other two routes in the second half of the show and ends up being an anime original mess.

Ufotable's 2014 adaptation of Fate/Stay Night covers the second route, Unlimited Blade Works, and it is a near-perfect adaptation of it. There is also Deen's 2010 UBW movie, which is a barely comprehensible clusterfuck because it's literally the entire route compressed into less than 2 hours of run time. If you didn't already know the basic plot you'd be confused as hell.

The third and final route, Heaven's Feel, has never been adapted, but Ufotable is planning three movies to cover it. Their release is not yet announced and they are still early in production.

So as you can see there's no way to experience F/SN's story via anime. Or manga for that matter. The only way to do it is the visual novel. I hope that in the future Ufotable will eventually adapt the entire game, doing a proper rendition of the Fate route. There should be plenty of demand for a real Fate route considering Saber is the main heroine in it and she's by far the most popular character in the franchise. They might be saving it for an anniversary date or something.

Oh and P.S., the routes are all cannon, they're like alternate versions of the same story, but they are played in order because they reveal gradually more information and secrets about the characters and settings, with HF being the most climactic and the craziest.

>>151162
i see, thanks

i'm a little hesitant to play the VN though because apparently it's classified as an eroge?
>>
>>151166
Yes, it has sex scenes.
>>
>>151166
There's an all ages version if you're squeamish. It's called Realta Nua, it's also got updated artwork, music tracks, and some bonus content. Altogether there's I think 6 sex scenes, 2 in the Fate route, 1 in UBW, and I think 3 in Heaven's Feel that are actually shown. It might sound like a lot, but given how long the game is it's basically nothing. A very conservative bare-bones run of F/SN will take you like 50 hours, that's if you don't bother listening to dialogue, don't try to get all the bad ends, don't do the alternate endings, etc. Just rushing to completion, while still actually reading it properly takes at least 50 hours. More like 70 if you do all that stuff I mentioned.

To put it in perspective, all the sex scenes if you watched them one after the other would be less than 30 minutes, all told.

For future reference, in Japan any game that has sexual content, regardless of the amount, is classified as eroge. Even F/SN which has only 1% of its content as sex is eroge.
>>
Just watch Zero. Skip the rest, it's irredeemable trash.
Anyway, Stay Night's anime spoils Zero, Zero spoil Stay Night.
>>
>>151166
Honest question, why does it having sex bother you?
>>
>>151224
Zero is a prequel written many years after F/SN was made, as such it was written with the assumption you'd already played F/SN. That's why it casually reveals several key mysteries that loomed over F/SN in the first few episodes.

Conversely there's nothing in F/Z that's ruined by having played F/SN first.
>>
>>151237
>why does it having sex bother you?
it doesn't but the eroge label is an eyebrow raiser for someone like me that doesn't know anything about VNs
>>
>>151266
Eroge is just a very broad term. If a game has any amount of sexual content in it, it's labeled eroge. Even if it's just one scene even. Doesn't necessarily make them porn. After all, Game of Thrones has tons of sex scenes but nobody calls it porn.

The term for eroge that actually ARE porn games is nukige.
>>
>>151269
Sure, but that's because Arya doesn't repeatedly have sex with a highschool guy (resembling the purchaser entirely by coincidence) in order to "recharge her power".
>>
>>151301
No instead you have Melisandra fucking to make shadow demons. How is it any different? Also the reasons for sex in F/SN vary with each route/heroine, but for whatever reason Saber's circumstances seem to be the one people latch onto the most even though there's two other routes with sex scenes that aren't mana transfers. Not that the reasons in those routes are any less hokey than transferring mana or summoning demons.
