looking for a new anime to watch requirements (shonen, for people over the age of 14 (so no fairy tail shit) also male protaganist and preferably uses a sword or melee of some kind) ive seen alot of these so try to stick to stuff like SAO and Bleach... thx

Shonen is literally the 14 year old and under demographic. Anyways if you don't mind robots GaoGaiGar is pretty fantastic and Guy uses a knife sometimes. Lupin the third 2015 was a new series of the older franchise and it was really good, made for older audiences (Senin), and features someone who uses a sword. Yozakura Quartet hanna no Uta is also pretty good and probably closer to what you're looking for. The main character also uses a spear.

Shonen is shonen because of the kids they market to. Seinen is what you're looking for.
Firstly, Fairy Tail isn't that much different from SAO or Bleach.

If you liked SAO then I can recommend Log Horizon
But if you don't like waiting 2 years for the next season then don't watch it because season 3 and the next set of light novels have yet to be released. Good show though.
