Hello!
I've seen many threads about Firefox extensions and security/privacy.
This is my list of extensions (Since the screenshot i've only added Privacy Badger):
http://imgur.com/a/M8vSW
I know, i don't have uBlock and uMatrix, but i'm looking for something else.
Some clarification:
1) Yes, two adblockers
1a) Yes, i've enabled all the AdBlockPlus lists and disabled the "non-intrusive" stuff
2) Yes, Ghostery and Disconnect. They complement each other IMHO
3) Request Policy and NoScript are a must, Am i right?
4) HTTPS everywhere because it's good
5) I'm not english so don't bother telling me about my errors (Or, at least, point them if i messed up soo bad you don't understand a word)
For what it's worth, please EXPLAIN CALMLY what does the extension you are suggesting and the reasons why i should add/remove something, don't just go "u stupid add this [link]".
P.S. I have no idea of what Decentraleyes does, i think i know what does the other do. So explain it to me please!
Pic not soo much related.

two security addons which haven't been mentioned yet:

-Expire history by days - for me one of the most important security features that was removed some years ago. it does what the name says: it completely removes links from your history that are older than x days. nobody can find out anything i browsed outside of the last 3 weeks by looking at my browser history. i've seen too many shitty court cases based on browser histories (oh, back in 2008 you googled for "hardcore teenagers" therefore you must be a pedophile, huehuehue - and yes, that's actually from a published court case).
-Google search link fix - i block referers and cookies, but google still wants to track what links i click on. with this addon, the search results are actually the proper links, not the internal google forwarding links to track your clicks.

i recommend not using google at all, yo can use searx.me with all search engines at once. it is FOSS, you can run your own instance and you don't get manipulated results.
>>
>>132468
1) No need to expire history by days, i have manually configured that when mozilla closes, history, download and cache are being cleared

2) Mentioned once already and i have it! Yet still, thx!
>>
>>132461
1) Ok, ok, got it, but i might need some more info on some configs
2) Got it, i missed one!
3) I don't need it, i think
4) I might need some info
5) I just discovered a whole world with the Greasemonkey Scripts. WOAH thx m8!
6) You just made my day
7) I usually used google, but hey, looking into this one now!
8) I took some good greasemonkey stuff from there and i improved the ram usage. GG m8!

you do, i can select to play any media file from any website with mpv through it with a right click menu. or just wget -e robots=off -rHE -Di.4cdn.org -nc -nd -nv -Rs.jpg,html "$@"
>>
>>132477
Hmm.
> wget -e robots=off -rHE -Di.4cdn.org -nc -nd -nv -Rs.jpg,html "$@"
I have no idea of what is it. Anyway. I'm looking into using mvp, but idk about the open with
>>
>>132480
>>> wget -e robots=off -rHE -Di.4cdn.org -nc -nd -nv -Rs.jpg,html "$@"
downloads all images/files on a specified 4chan thread.
mpv is awesome, you need to use it with youtube-dl. on windows you need to put the youtube-dl.exe into the mpv directory, on GNU/Linux you can just install both with your package manager and be done with it.
>>
>>132484
"Be done with it" is an euphemism. I escalated from win 10 to ubuntu to Arch now and i'm still getting use. I had had Arch for a week now and i'm not that good with AUR packages and i'm still setting this machine up.
Also, the AUR packages site is under maintenance atm, so yeah.
>>
>>132487
wait, you have to use the AUR for stuff like mpv and youtube-dl? why is this not in the main repo? i thought arch being a meme was a meme. that aside you can just use the pkgbuild on the aur and do it yourself.
or read https://mpv.io/installation/

The way I download (porn) videos is, you open the page that contains the video and click on "view source". Just search for ".mp4" and you'll find a link to a mp4 file. These links are usually in the form of domain-name com/path/to/video.mp4?hashstring

These links expire (they don't want you linking directly to them) but they work just fine. You can load them in your browser and you can hit "Save video as".

Saving videos from youtube this way is a pain in the ass. If you've ever tried working it out from the source code, you'll know it's a fucking mess. You can just open VLC and click on Media -> Open network stream. Paste the youtube link and play the video. Then hit CTRL + I (that's an i) to get the link to an mp4 file.

or use mpv. or use youtube-dl -F to list all options and then download which number you need.

I know there are tools that make downloading videos really simple and automated. But I always favor the simplest way to do a task. And by "simplest" I mean the one that doesn't require me to install programs/add ons. So that's why.
>>
>>132516
in that case, wget or curl are installed basically everywhere, you can alias that.
>>
How useful is editing the HOSTS file?
>>
>>132527
if it is on your router, a lot.
On your computer there are packages that can do it for you such as xul-ext-ublock-origin

Using extensions for security is doing it backwards if you haven't taken care of the main problems in the default configuration. To improve security there are some more options to do without installing extensions.

Open about:config from the url bar and modify the following settings. Type part of the value in the search box to find them. If you are uncertain about something, you can always use right click and restore to get the default setting back.

dom.disable_beforeunload
>true

dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled
>false

dom.popup_allowed_events
>double click and delete the entries

geo.enabled
>false

network.prefetch-next
>false

network.dns.disablePrefetch
>true
