It's a laptop I will be keeping for a while so I am willing to spend this much (it's a lot for me I earn £8.00 an hour)..but if anyone has any better suggestions on where to buy a laptop? or a different one to buy, at a better price, i'd really appreciate it.

Laptops are not meant for gaming and can't be upgraded.

Okay I doubt you need an i7, so if you go for the Optimus Pro:

and go for the i5 default option, it has a 965m which is better than the 960m:

Then, have your main hard drive be a 2TB and get a 128GB m.2 for the OS. Having an SSD for the OS is definitely noticeably faster. It then comes to £870.
You can remove the operating system from the build if you have means of getting it cheaper and this would let you afford the i7 if you really wanted, coming to £868.

is a SSD really worth it when I have a 2tb hard drive? I was under the impression they were more useful for laptops with smaller hard drives.

They are worth it. If you put your operating system and applications on the SSD then it will boot a lot faster and applications open pretty much instantly, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv5dCXiXFaw
Things like videos, music, pictures etc don't really need an SSD so they can all use the HDD instead.
