So after using a 970 for maybe a year, I start getting random "display driver has crashed". When it first started it happend maybe once in a while, but now it's almost as soon as I begin playing a game. I started underclocking it to the "default" nvidia clocks, and it worked fine for a while, but then it started acting the same again.
It ran very hot when I didnt underclock, maybe around 90 degrees celsius on heavy load. But i've had crashes happen when it's as low as 70 degrees aswell.
Anyone have any experience with this issue ? im wondering if it might be the psu going bad if not the card itself is just broken.

Sounds like a bad driver. Try a different driver version even an older one but still one for your card and OS. Do a clean driver install. Those temps are definitely not normal, could be a hardware problem like your GPU fan failing or your driver might not be controlling fan speeds correctly under load.

This started maybe half a year a go, and i update drivers frequent( have also tried older ones) but it does not seem to have any effect whatsoever.
it also crashes when I manually sets the fan to go full supersonic.

Dust it out. Also nvidia drivers have been shit since last December so consider rolling back to something like 359.06

forgot to mention that I have formated multiple times since it started

tried to clean it, even bought new fans for the case to improve the airflow.
but the temps were still suspiciously high, maybe around 85 on high load, spiking even higher.

Make sure you have the fans blowing air in and out of the case. Preferably so it flows through all the components otherwise you are just trapping air inside the case which will raise your temps a fair bit.

I have one fan on the side blowing in, and another one on the back blowing out. I think the airflow is alright since the cpu temps are normal.
