I need to format my computer and I have two discs that came with my computer, but I can't tell if they're startup discs or not.
Is there any way to check without potentially wiping my computer and having no operating system to run it with?
post pictures of them? You sure your computer doesn't have a "restore" utility in the start menu? a lot of prebuilts have a restore program that is hard to find in the start menu.

I don't see anything that says restore in the start menu. Where would it be?

post picture of your start menu
well, what is on them if you insert them into your drive while already in windows? the text doesn't really say if they're actually for windows or maybe just for drivers and tools?
>Is there any way to check without potentially wiping my computer
no, there's always a potential if you're dumb enough and ignore three warnings
it will not wipe anything automatically if you boot from them. at first it would offer to repair or restore an existing windows, then there's still a bunch of safeguards before you actually wipe out a partition.

click advanced options again and then click next. This right here WILL delete all your shit and make it so that it's as if you just bought it. It's going to be all out of date and shit and your old files wwill be deleted. You're going to have to buy re update and install drivers for new hardware and shit.

Is that what might be on the discs that came with the computer?
I just want to make sure I have everything I need to breathe life back in to her after the wiping, ideally, for little to no money.

Click system recoveey and click next. Forget the discs. This program was meant to replace those discs.

You sure you clicked system recovery? just don't select any, what happens when you click next?
>>114203
I want to save the files I've downloaded. Some of them, at least.
>>114207
in that case I would back that up manually. I would exit the restore program and go back to windows and then manually copy that stuff to dvd or another drive. And then go back to the restore program and wipe everything.

Throwing a few files on a USB stick now.
>>114219
Alright, you should always do that first.
>>114220
It was backed up for this occasion, but I just remembered few newer, important files that I couldn't replace.
>>114222
I'm going out, be back in like half an hour just in case you need some more help.

Cool, thanks.
