Assuming whites can't sit on a jury for a black (or any other racial minority) person and be impartial is in itself racist, because it assumes every white person isn't capable of being unbiased.
In this case, I think the defense team wanted to get their clients out of the death penalty and this is just one thing that stuck.
In reality, it opens up pandora's box to begin pandering to this line of thinking. If we only let black people sit on the jury when the defendant is black, whites can only sit on the jury when the defendant is white, etc, we're effectively bringing segregation back to America. This is what I find so disturbing about the demands of the BlackLivesMatter protestors. If you read and really think about their demands, they are effectively arguing for a reintroduction of segregation. Whether they realize it or not, their ideas speak to a future in which black suspects are held to different standards than white suspects, and that they should be treated differently.

The more demands are made, the more standards are established that the demanders must meet. To cut things off here would seem more racist than ever, especially when tempers are boiling to the edge of the pot.
The situation keeps escalating, and white people must accept it. And the demanders won't stop either. Why stop making demands when those demands will always be met?

The point of home invasion is to steal (or for younger people, to vandalize and steal), and the goal therefore is to wait until folks aren't home, so that's the vast majority of cases. The murder/rape scenario happens in the vast minority of cases of both murders and rapes and of home invasions -- it's just the high-profile shit. Also, thugs may not mind a prison record, but a life sentence for a crime that was supposed to carry 1-3yrs if caught with a weapon (or month with probation if 1st offence with no wep) would have most of them running if they found out people were home (which is indeed exactly what happens).
