Is this considered Retro?
What if something is proto-modern?
This thing was going to be some ridiculous multimedia gaming console and tried too much way too soon, without the proper tools and proper developers behind it.
I was almost afraid to post about it because I'm sure some E-Celeb will make a video on it now.
>Korean trash heap console
>Is it retro or proto modern.
It's garbage.
I think that sort of thing flies under the radar and is allowed due to not having anywhere else to post about.
Was this thing ever released? I vaugely recall some DVDs advertising they had interactive games but it was usually just a hidden easter egg in the menu
Wikipedia says gen 6, so I'm guessing no.
But if we are going to talk about failed consoles anyway, HOWABOUT THAT PHANTOM?
What *really* irked me was infinium actually tried to sue someone for "defamation". And then couldn't even pony up the documents the judge wanted and essentially auto-lost. Fucking pieces of shit.
I've been thinking about it, and I don't really think that RPG is a proper moniker for games where there is adventuring and stat-building, but no real decision-making or role-playing on the part of the player. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just hard for me to call that an RPG when there's not much RP. I mean yeah, you can say that you "play a role" as is the popular wise-ass answer, but that applies to almost any game.
Personally, I think a better term for these kinds of games would be Narrative-Driven Games, since most of...

Well, this is pretty simple for me:
1) "Role-playing game" denotes a particular kind of pen & paper game, not any kind of game where you act out a role
2) a reasonably accurate-ish video game adaptation of 1) is also a role-playing game
Now there are some people who will tell you that old Gygax dungeon crawling modules aren't *akshual* role-playing, which just makes me want to track down and kill people from the internet.
Addendum: who cares anyway, lol nerdz

>Now there are some people who will tell you that old Gygax dungeon crawling modules aren't *akshual* role-playing
They're not.
A proper role-playing game is a game where you're made to feel like you ARE your character, and encouraged to act as your character would in the settings in which she finds herself.
If all you do is mechanically walk around killing things, you're not playing an RPG. You're playing Monopoly with swords.
>>3286432
Not OP but "Role playing game" and "RPG Elements" have never been fully accurate.
If you say "I'm playing an RPG", well technically every game is an RPG because you're role playing as the protaganist.
I don't know what you'd call it though as an alternative. Western RPG and JRPG are 2 pretty distinct genres at this point, to the point where the RPG acronym is basically worthless as a descriptor.
what are you playing right now /vr/?
I'm playing Tetris Plus on playstation. The puzzle mode is really fun, and they track your continues in a creative way.
Not to mention, the gold embossed logo looks dope.
I just got 6AAs so I'm blasting some scope in here. It's been many years.
>>3285057
you know, a super scope is the one big nintendo thing I've never seen in person before.
>>3285040
Nothing but i plan on finishing all bomberman games and right now I wonder if I should play Bomberman 1 and 2 on MSX.
They are really weird and play strange, more like 15 second puzzles than action.
Post your favorite playable characters from any game with multiple playable characters.
Megaman. The OG.
And my bro TJ.
However will I electrocute that guy that's on the other side of the screen?
If only I had some kind of EXTENDING ROBOT ARMS
This and The Chaos Engine are cool
Hey, /vr/. I'm looking for darker, atmospheric mystery adventure games. Like the Gabriel Knight games, but I've already played all of them. Of particular interest would be anything noir or hardboiled in tone/themes. Help me out?
Thanks in advance for anything you can recommend.
>>3284875
Probably not exactly what you're looking for but it's pretty dark.
Why were the letters off-center?

Possibilities:
Artist's design
Grip
Literally whatever reason you can think of
So you could see the letters by only lifting your thumb slightly, or moving it to the edge (and still being able to push the button).

What are the best retro sports games? Pic very related.
NBA JAM
Ice Hockey, NES
NHL 94 on genesis was my shit back in the day
The way people hate on Ryu for being whitebread is friggin' dumb. The guy stands for strength, introspection, and constant self-improvement above all. What's wrong with that?
Retro SF thread. Keep in mind that covers pretty much everything pre-SF4, since 3S came out in '99.
He's a dirty hobo who goes into edgemaster mode sometimes. Plus according to your pic he's a manlet so that's another strike against him.
>>3285072
5'10 is a manlet? I mean, by japanese standards that's pretty tall, and by western standards it's pretty average.
The problem with Ryu is they don't really touch on his wandering warrior/hobo fighter personality that often.
I think his best incarnation is in 3S where he's carrying around his duffle bag at all times and just drops it on the ground at the start of a match because he happened to wander into a fight.
They also don't really mention the fact that his best friend is a billionaire who just airdrops him supplies every few months.
I bought a Sega Genesis 2 in box with everything included so I could play Aladdin or Sonic 2 but, after testing it constantly, it won't get past the "Licensed By" black screen before the game boots up. I've cleaned it and everything. What next?
>>3284191
buy a wii and softmod it
Put a credit card between a piece of thin cloth. Damp it with rubbing alcohol.
Press it into the game slot.
Should pick up oils and dirt stuff
emuparadise my nigga.
Do you prefer when the handheld version of a game is an exact port? Or when it's a completely different game all together?
>>3284017
in general, when they are completely different
>>3284017
Port, preferably with some additional content.
I like the cutesy, chibi take on a game for handheld ports. Pic related.

Shit, no wonder they were touchy about which games to release.
this game is too hard and I can barely get past first level. what is an easier game?
>>3283116
Man, mars matrix was my first bullet hell.
I think in terms of bullet hells, Ikaruga is easier. Is this genre even /vr/?
>>3283121
Yes, they started in the 90s and many of them are on Saturn and Dreamcast.
>>3283116
Espgaluda.
It's still a pain in the ass but much easier than fucking ikaruga or dodonpachi. Not quite retro, tho... 2003 release.
Let's have a thread about one of the best platformer series ever, Adventure Island/Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima. Right up there with Super Mario Bros., IMO.
What are your favorite games in the series?
Any romhacks you know of?
Share memories, discuss, post art, etc.
>>3282675
Loved the first game and still do, something about the sprite work combined with the music really sets the mood for me, its nothing impressive but its what makes it shine for me
>>3282683
Yeah, it's really a timeless game.
Have you played the sequels?
I remember playing Adventure Island 3 with my old Famicom replica (Micro Genius IQ-901). It was charming and challenging at the same time. Not the mention soundtrack was awesome.
Hey guys, footage from one of Osamu Sato's lost games has surfaced

What.
What are your thoughts on this game? I've played a bit of it and it seems kinda fun so far. The controls take a little bit to get used to.
I liked it. Reminded me of the kind of isometric fad on home computers in the 80's like Head Over Heels.
>>3282517
Ya i think it is a sequal to solstice i think not sure but both were great
