Hard Rock and Heavy Metal were popularly used genres in VGM scores, so post all vintage favorites, chiptunes or arranged soundtracks.
In some instances, certain songs emulate or, in some outerlying cases, outright lift riffs from popular bands.
Take "Jungle Bouncer" on KOF '94:

Maximum Carnage had a song done by Green Jellÿ. Somehow the SNES version is better than the actual song. The Genesis one sounds like butt.

Man, Capcom used to have great Rock soundtracks. Why the fuck did they abandon them?
How the fuck is anyone supposed to figure out how to get the good ending on their own the first time through? Its impossible.

My question is why did the slavers wear sunglasses and leather trenchcoats? Also why there a Japanese restaurant in the middle of Artolia?
>the first time through
It's a fairly short game and I guess back in the day people actually liked to replay games instead of plowing through shit as fast as possible and dropping it like hot garbage for the next title.

Back then we didn't have anything else to occupy our time. Books, I guess.

Trivia: Why do you think Hannah is the worst character in the game? The answer is NOT obvious, trust me.

Punching highschool girls is the way to go.

I love that game.
Hook (Irem)
Fun game.
Play the Japanese version. Way more colorful, and has this female boss instead of the Hook clones.

When it comes to retro consoles is emulation always superior to playing on the original hardware?
I really wish we had a dedicated mod.

If you really think left is better you're going to have to explain yourself.

Games that require food are cancer.
Might as well require potty breaks too, why stop there?

Akalabeth.
Richard Garriot's first game.
He made the ultima series.
she's pretty hot

Too focused on action to be called survival horror and certainly isn't scary to begin with.

I see your finger slipped. Don't worry I got you.Better waifu's too.
I'm about to play the first LoZ game, the first Zelda title I have ever played. What should I expect? Is the game beatable without any help whatsoever? I've heard there's a lot of typical cryptic 80's game secrets that have plagued titles like Castlevania 2.
>What should I expect?
Action and puzzle-solving. Albeit, LoZ puzzles weren't all that complex, as there were only a few possible actions you could perform in any given room.
>Is the game beatable without any help whatsoever?
Yes. Only the second quest is slightly disorienting, but still totally beatable without a guide. I can think of maybe one or two parts that would confuse most people. (and only on the second quest)
>I've heard there's a lot of typical cryptic 80's game secrets that have plagued titles like Castlevania 2.
The symptom doesn't apply to the original LoZ. Some people have directed such complaints at Zelda II, but I think they're full of shit. I beat that game when I was 10.
Yes you can definitely beat it even without a map like the one that came with the game. Just listen to what the old men say. Sometimes it's useless bullshit but other times they give vital clues, such as the location of a dungeon.
This game requires a walk through of some sort and definitely a map. You should be able to make it through with that much, but going in blind just equates to you wandering around for 2 hours then, eventually, be in a dungeon that you don't belong in. Other than that, it's still a solid 3 decades old game. The 2nd one is a different story.
Finished this absolute fucking jewel of a game the other day. I laughed out loud many times. This may be the best thing George Lucas has ever been lucky enough to have his name attached to.

I grew up with this game and jumped on the remaster the day it dropped. Great game! It is a sequel though. The full original is actually in DotT. Use the computer in Crazy Ed's room to play it.
If you like this, try The Dig and Sam&Max Hit the Road.
>>3292452
I've played the original MM. Liked it, but nowhere near as much. I'm actually about to try Sam and Max, but hadn't heard of the Dig. Thanks for the recommendation.
How do you feel about the remaster compared to the original?
Would this work on a Retron 2?

Well that was pretty fun, I can see why it's so highly rated, it has some ambitious amount of content. First Final Fantasy game I ever finished
The Weapons optional boss fights were the best part, any other RPG with some similar end game challenge?
Is Crisis Core worth it?
Why did the Weapons have no point storywise and just wondered around instead of fucking Sephiroth's shit up?
>>3292124
>Why did the Weapons have no point storywise and just wondered around instead of fucking Sephiroth's shit up?
Because although Sephiroth was the reason they awoke, his energy barrier concealed his presence to them. They assumed that humans were the reason they awoke instead.
>>3292124
>The Weapons optional boss fights were the best part, any other RPG with some similar end game challenge?
most of the post-FFVII JRPGs, really. While having optional, powerful bosses wasn't a new thing, FFVII really kickstarted the "+1000000HP mega secret boss" who required of extensive meta-gaming knowledge.

no

I've read that the weapons were originally intended to be creations of Sephiroth to help augment his defenses to the northern crater, but that somehow makes even less sense than the reasoning we got in the final game. Oh well, they're cool so I don't mind them being an afterthought.
So did PAL really win in the end?
>higher resolution
>richer colour palette
>fairly good refresh rate
What are your thoughts and experiences, /vr/?
>>3291923
Why does that even exist? I don't quite understand. Why couldn't it all be PAL or NTSC?
>>3291923
>fairly good refresh rate
0/10, anon. 50hz is trash and the marginally higher maximum resolution of PAL isn't even close to taken advantage of by retro consoles.
TVs suck either way. Computer monitors are where it's at.

Have you tried the Sega 3d collection? It
Has 1,2 and 2w, in 3d!
I've never played a Nintendo game besides SMB and I find their huge franchises overwhelming to get into.
Can /vr/ give me a newbie's guide to Nintendo so I know what to play first?

You really can't go wrong with the snes games.
Start with these
Legend of zelda link to the past
Super mario world
Kirby nightmare in dream land
Yoshi's island
Pokemon yellow
Pretty basic well known nintendo games that aren't too overwhelming
