Hey /vr/, what do you do or what did you do when you realized becoming an awesome retro game collector just wasn't feasible?
Lets say your heart really does still lie with retro games after all these years, and then reality sets in and then doubts and worry sets in regarding collecting.
>Money
>Space
>Time
>Worries about rarity
>No one to play with
>Ease of emulation
>It'll all be dust some day
etc etc. Whether you stop altogether or just decide to move onto emulation, what were the reasons why? Where does one stepping into digital collections begin? How do you assuage that "It's just not quite the same" feeling?
As for me I'm just getting into collecting digitally any way I can, but I'm new to the most effective emulators and setups. I'm not sure if I should just keep my stuff in boxes or if I should give it to an actually superior, successful collector. I'm not really interested in selling anything. Pic related, it's an offhand photo of my humble yet very incomplete collection, just some shots of SNES/N64 games amassed by high school, some notable favorites absent.

More like "Bait: The thread"
This is dumb. You should set out to buy the games you'd like to play, emulate the ones out of you price range, and that's it.
I'm a stickler for playing the games as originally released. I've got a lot of albums on vinyl as well.
ITT games that were never, ever pretty.
>>2774908
Rude desu
Syphon Filter, fun game, but ugly as fuck
>>2774908
ITT shit opinions and bait
>no RPGs allowed
Shining Force 3 is a bad game and not releasing the two giant expansion packs for it was a good move.
>>2774751
>The greatest game of all time is bad.
Nice meme, but you need to work on it.
alright /vr/ hear me out
I've been trying to get into this game for a long while now but I can't stand the English voices. I know there's an undub circulating out there and I actually gave it a try but the piece of shit still has the English combat voices.
Now, even after that I kept playing and fully enjoyed the game. Even got up to the ghost ship boss but the retarded English battle voices finally got to me and I had to drop the game.
Here I am once more many years later and there's rumors of a 100% English Text Japanese voices version...

>English voices in my Japanese video games
Why is this allowed

>>2774263
>Revenge is the best one
Nigga knows.
Without glitches, is there any other way to finish OoT besides Forest>Fire>Water>>Shadow/Spirit>Spirit/Shadow
Sequence breaking is a glitch by definition since they (probably) didn't intend it.
I do water before fire
>>2774250
Forest>Fire/Water>Water/Fire>Shadow/Spirit>Spirit/Shadow
What's the best version of Langrisser 1? Keep in mind that i can read Japanese.
>>2774126
>Keep in mind that i can read Japanese
Start translating games. I'll thank you later, maybe.
>>2774137
I learned Japanese to play games not to translate them
>>2774148
I love you.
Yall into this game? Been playing it... it's fun as hell
I finished it the other day,i had 25 lives (with half of them being instant continues) stocked up for the last stage and used nearly all of them to beat it,pretty nice game.
>>2774160
Yah that snowman boss is fucking me up on stage 4 I get their with like 13 lives
I don't play top down shooters like some kind of pleb. So no.
It looks cute in style though, seems to be a bomberman spinoff or universe game.
lets hear it
there's only like 10 games for the n64 anyway who cares
hear it?

Not trying to start a war, just looking for unheard PC versions that are good.
Like, everybody remembers the N64 games, but barely anyone talks about the PC version, though it did a lot of stuff better. Higher res texture, wide screen, less fog, higher quality samples and better controls. Stuff like that was rather common back then, but there are a lot of games that are only remembered for their console versions.
Starshot: Space Circus Fever had voice acting, in multiple languages, on the PC. It's not a great game, but hey, it's something.

Wasn't the PC version of Turok gimped compared to N64 though?
>>2774771
It's turok2 that you're thinking of, and even then while some lightning effects do look worse others look even better. The framerate is overall better, aiming is better due to mouselook and higher resolutions. But you'll need a glide wrapper to be able to see the map.
Now that it's up for sale on gog, Legacy of Kain is way better on PC.
Previous thread - >>2758694
This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.

First for unplugging your monitor when not using it.
My eyes hurt when using a my CRT for at least 2 minutes, even less. how can I stop this from happening?
I think its related to scanlines
>>2773717
this
my main reason is my 2 year old likes to hit buttons. a few seconds of him spamming my power button and bye bye crt.
Total annihilation general
Do people still play this or its mods? And how fun is setting the game to no nukes no air units?
>>2773645
I used to play this game solely for a Star Wars mod. Great game, and I was never even an RTS fan.
One of my favourite games of all time. Makes me sad that the thread isn't getting more love. It's been a while but I still revisit it every now and then. The "spiritual successors" just don't have the same character in my eyes. Maybe it's just nostalgia though.
>>2773645
/vr/ is slow enough that some people will chime in when they see the thread.
@OP: post some links, talk about the mods, show us why we should love the game. It still has an active mp/modding community, right?
>playing shit-tier Solitaire instead of based Freecell
Explain yourselves
Why limit myself to either? I can play both AND Minesweeper AND Hearts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw-Yf4qiYSI
Found you, OP.
I would not be surprised if half the computers sold in the late 90's were sold to people who just wanted to play solitaire
I have two different, yet similar plans to force the price of the rarest game in the world down to a price that would actually make sense to pay. The rarest game ever, of course, being Earthbound, according to the half-dozen listings on ebay at any given time. In any case, if these plans would work, would it be ethical? Just to lower to price, I mean, and make that decision for everyone.
Of course it's ethical. Do you need a vote of confidence from 4channers?
>>2773550
It's not as rare as a lot of other games, but go ahead. It won't matter anyway. The only thing that would lower the price (although it might just drive it higher) is a physical collection release.
>>2773556
It's a couple things. I'd also like to know if there were any angles I hadn't thought about that other people might notice with fresh eyes.
