CURRENTLY HOSTING UT99 AT 98.15.234.144
Hey /v/, since September 28th 2010, I've been hosting servers for UT99 and UT2004, and now I host Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy with JK2 maps as well.
My User Name: InspecktahDeck - Steam Group Name: Speck's Unreal /V/idya. You don’t need the steam version to play, but having steam lets you receive announcements when we play. Discussion boards are now on the group page for users to discuss the games, servers, or suggest tweaks/changes, with some other fun stuff. If you have any problems joining, please post them in...

This is all you need to get UT99 and UT2004 up-to-date from a fresh install. For UT99, just make sure you have the latest patch and bonus packs 3 and 4. For UT2004, install the Mega Bonus Pack.

What does /vr/ think about the first two GTA games ?
>>2777230
The best, especially multiplayer and builtin-cheats which made the sandbox experience even better.
GTA 1 was my killer app.
>>2777234
>the best
No, fuck off. Just because something is older doesn't make it better. They were good games for their time but the 3d games blew them out of the water in every single way.
Straight platformers that feel were adventurous without being a metroidvania. One that really feels like a journey where you see and expierence.... stuff. An adventure.
I think SMB2 did that rather well. You know, in the first level you climb up a waterfall to reach the peak of the mountain to fight a dragon. Or the second level in which you steal a magic carpet, go into a giant vase, to find a key and get chased by an evil mask. And then there is the level where you jump from whale to whale, which is kinda beautiful.
The game has some really creative and imaginative...

So basically adventure platformers that came out before SotN.
>>2775628
It's almost sort of metroidvania so it may not be what you're looking for, but Simon's Quest was one of my favorite games as a kid for that very reason.
Ecco the Dolphin isn't exactly a platformer but gives me a lot of those feelings as well.
Metal Warriors also not exactly a platformer, but very open and adventury feeling.
Sayonara Umihara Kawase was released on steam this week so you don't have to buy a vita(or vita tv) to play it now if you didn't already. Umi thread to celebrate.
Recently got an everdrive for SNES. How is the game on that system? Is it a decent place to start?
>>2730785
The original is still great and you can start just about anywhere in the series(there's only 3 distinct games). The major differences between the games would be line elasticity, enemies and levels.
Never needed a vita to begin with, it was released on 3DS originally

I think I'm starting to like IV better than III.
Help me.
>>2727938
I'm currently playing through Gathering Storms campaigns.
The game has so much wrong decisions in terms of design it's actually funny, but still is kind of entertaining. Not better than III, mind you. I think you will just get tired of it eventually, if not, seek further help.
Are forest levels the undisputed GOAT on retro video games?
>>2791762
Yeah pretty much, especially that one with it's GOAT theme song.
yes
>>2791762
I found a factory sealed Nintendo 64 for 80€
Is it a good deal?
>>2791607
Yes.
Not OP here.
Don't want to make an extra thread.
Would you pay 170€ for this?
Lets talk about N64!
I'm a big fan of Thanksgiving, so I really dislike holiday creep. Nonetheless, I've begun to think about gift giving already. Has anyone bought before from one of those Ebay sellers offering pic related and 2-3 games for ~$100? What was your experience? I know it's not the best deal out there, but it seems worth it if I can reliably get decent controllers.
Of more personal interest; does anyone know what's up with the UltraHDMI? I just found out about this mod from watching this video:

Ebay/paypal heavily favors the buyer in any disputes, so as long as you read the description (ie don't buy one that says "as is" or "untested") from a seller with 98%+ ratings you'll be fine.
>>2791513
Thanks. There are 3 or 4 of these sellers and they are all well rated. I figure it's a safe buy more or less.
I was more interested in whether the the controllers really are in good shape. It seems to be a point of emphasis, but I have no idea what an "8/10" stick is supposed to be like.
I don't really care about the free games, I fully expect them all to be EA sports garbage.
>>2791519
Well an 8/10 probably means they're not super dirty and all the buttons and stick work and aren't worn out.
If you do get a dud or a fucked stick send a message to the seller and they'll almost certainly give you a partial refund or swap. Seller ratings as massively important and often a 1/5 rating can be worse than taking a loss.
I know it's early, but here's a link to the Snow Level Music that was put together a while back.
This includes Disks 1-4

maybe paste a track listing here to spark some interest?
virus don't click )^:
how did the developers program the color palettes before they could even be played that way?
The Super Game Boy just assigns arbitrary colors to the different sprite layers.
>>2790879
>arbitrary
really? some of the colors definitely seem planned, like kirby being pink
>>2790886
Or the two Gen. 1 Pokemon games.
when did you play this last?
I played it in 1995.
I remember looking for the lock-on cartidge everywhere, but in my country it was hard as fuck to find original Sega games, they were all bootleg carts, considerably cheaper so most of the times I didn't care, but with S&K I did since when I got it, it was a regular cart and I couldn't use it with Sonic 3.
Eventually I got to play 3&K on Sonic Jam for the Saturn.
But as for vanilla S&K, yeah, 1995.
Probably haven't played it since KB Toys had a kiosk running it
2 days ago
Mostly just a quick check to make sure the rom worked before I give this setup to my cousin
As a kid I thought this setup was the coolest thing ever, though I didn't actually play it that much. By the time I got this cart the N64 had already came out and I was obsessed with getting one so I could play mario kart.
This fucking thing.
Why did they try to extend it's life so fucking much?
Look at all the fucking shit they did.
PORTABLE GENESES (yes, geneses is the plural of genesis)
-Mega Drive
-Mega Jet
-Nomad
ADDONS AND SHIT:
-GENESIS 2
-GENESIS 3
-MEGA CD
-32X
-CDX
Why?
Why'd they do this? Why the fuck did Sega want to kill itself instead of just releasing a separate in between system? Why did they can the Neptune? Why the fuck did they not just release the Saturn later and give it some more development time...

SEGA DO WHAT NINTENDONT
>>2790330
fail?
Why do you think that stuff is what killed them? Genesis 2 and 3 and Nomad were probably pretty cheap to make. Would have been cheap technology at the time. (Maybe not the Nomad because screens tend to be expensive)
Decided to play all of Quintet's SNES games. Played Actraiser, it was pretty fun overall. The city-builder segments were interesting at first, but became increasingly tedious. Now I'm playing Soulblazer, what a weird concept - restoring buildings and people to the towns as you progress through the dungeons. Is the Master in this game supposed to be the same as the one in Actraiser?
Even though SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma are known as a trio the only two Quintet games that are related are the two Actraisers.
>>2790295
Why are they considered a trio? Just because they're the same genre by the same company, kind of like how Demon Souls and Bloodbourne are considered part of the same "set?"
How is Robotrek?
>>2790329
It's dope, can be a grind at bosses though.
I am going to buy 7 N64 virtual console games
Mario 64
Pilotwings
F Zero X
Wave Race
Mario Tennis
Sin and Punishment
Oggre Battle
I already have Ocarina and Majora in the Gamecube Collection, and got Star Fox and Paper Mario as Club Nintendo rewards.
I dont know if I should buy them on my Wii to play them in 240p (I have it connected to a crt), or if it is fine to buy them on the Wii U in Wii Mode and play them in 480i, I can connect the Wii U to the crt with the wii component cables.
IIRC, the highest resolution of the N64 was 480i...

Good lord.
All of these games are 240p originally

Hey,
Do any of you have experience with RGB Scart?
In particular, I am noticing my N64 RGB Scart doesn't look so great on a 50 inch 1080p. I think I may need to sit farther away from it, but I also just think a 50 inch is just too big for the N64 at 1080p.
Do you guys have any recommendations LED TV wise for RGB Scart?
I was thinking of getting a 30 inch 1080p TV for my retro RGB gaming.
I wanted to note that this is only an issue with 3D systems. 2D systems look great on any size TV.
Stop being an autist and just play the fucking game.
this is for all of you out there
>>2790227
It doesn't look that good and I get field of view sickness on the 50 inch.
I've got to ask:
Is your N64 actually modded for RGB output?
By default, all you're going to get out of it over SCART is composite.
